Hello everyone,

Not sure if this has ever happened to anyone but here goes..... Today I had a paid cake. It was a Nemo cake and I did it. BUT... I am not satisfied with my work. I found that the eyes on Nemo don't look right, I broke 3 fins and only had 4. When the customer came to pick it up, I didn't want to charge him at all. He said it looked fine but not to be rude (he is my cousin) and the person I am worried about is his wife. She is a beautiful person inside and out. But I still feel like I let her and her son Greg down. If you take the time to look at some of my pictures you would see the progress between each cake. At this point I feel like this was my first cake I have ever made. (horrible looking)

Anyways, the favor I am asking all of you is the honesty and truth about my cake. What did I do wrong and what can I change.

Thanks everyone
Sylvie

Cake is BC and the fins and eyes are royal icing.

I keep scrolling back up to look at your cake...I'm trying to see what you say may be wrong with it...and I can't see anything wrong. You are definitely being to hard on yourself. I think you did a great job!

Hi,
I do see what you mean... it's the eyes. In most of the pictures of Nemo on the net, the white part of the eye is large, the black orb, is a little smaller. There is a bit of orange, but it is a much deeper, darker and duller shade.
And I think the white on the mouth is a little too thick... but I am being extremely picky here!

But I think the cake looks great, and I am sure Greg and his family were very happy with it.

I would be very proud of this cake if I were you...Nemo looks great! Unfortunately, we are our own worst critics...if there is a minor flaw in this cake, only you can see it.....to the rest of us it is beautiful! icon_wink.gif

I don't know anything about Nemo but your cake is fine.

Relax, you are being to hard on yourself.

Thank you everyone for all your encouraging comments. You are all right that we are our worst critics. I knew I could count on my familly and friends here at CC for the vote of confidence.

Again Thanks

I think the cake looks great. If I was at the party and looked at the cake I would definitely know it was Nemo with no question. I know how much work it took to do that cake. I just started decorating this past spring so I don't have alot of experience. I have only done 1 cake that I was really totally happy with. I can always find something wrong with every cake I do. My family always tells me the cakes look great. I think most people look at the cakes as a whole and being decorators we tend to look for every little detail.
