I usually grease my pans with crisco and then flour them and I have never had a sticking problem. So, skeptical me used "Pam spray with flour for baking" the other day and it worked like a charm! Just an FYI.
Crisco also makes a cooking spray with flour in it. At Wal-Mart is even cheaper then Pam!! FYI
I am not sure how to bake a cake without using this Pam with Flour. I just love it and it is so much easier and faster. Not to mention cleaner.
Yea, for the longest time I would only use Crisco and flour and I took a chance on baker's joy. I love it!!! Now I use the crisco spray, cause it's even cheaper and works exactly the same. So much easier and not near as messy.
I ditched the baking sprays b/c I always ended up with a crispy edge around the top. Do none of you ever experience the crunch factor?
Even cheaper is to make your own by mixing equal parts of oil, crisco and flour ( I use 1 c.of each). Toss it all in the mixer on medium speed until well blended. Put it in an airtight container and store in the fridge....pull it out when ready to use and with a pastry brush, just brush it on to coat the entire pan. It's great, cheap and no messy overspary!
i hate the whole grase and flour thing, so i found this canola oil spray thing..kind of like regular pam, but it says with canola oil and i only use that...works like a charm...EVERY TIME!!
I have some non-stick pans that I bought at Williams Sonoma. I couldn't get anything to come out of them without sticking and tearing up. I went to the store and asked them what I was doing wrong. They suggested using the spray with oil and flour in it. Of course, they wanted me to buy theirs at $7 a can. Baker's Joy and the Crisco one works just as well if not better.
bubblezmom, I got the crunch factor too but I use the bake even strips and I always end up having to cut off the tops anyway.
Yet another product I love is the Wilton cake release stuff. It works just as well as the spray. The only bad thing is that I don't have a pastry brush that doesn't shed.
I use the Wilton cake release too... I may have to try the sprays though... sounds even faster and easier.
I've always used Bakers Joy until a few months ago when I saw Pam and it was on sale....I also had a coupon, so of course I had to try it, I mean that's a no brainer, right?! The Pam sprays a lot more even than the Bakers Joy! When I ran out of Pam, so did the grocery store, so I tried Crisco. Crisco was good, but like the Bakers Joy, it didn't spray as even as Pam. This week, the store had Pam on sale, and yep, I had a coupon, so I bought 3 cans, so I don't run out any time soon!!!
bonniebakes - I have a silicone one. I think it's OXO or Good Grips brand. It's just as bad as my other ones. What brand do you have? I would love a non-shedding brush!!

I was using a pampered chef one and all it did was shed My DM picked me up a couple silicone ones and they are fantastic! Never shed and clean a lot easier too.
I'm going to give the Pam w/flour a try. The other sprays haven't worked well for me but I'd love the convenience if I could find one that did. I'm still greasing and flouring. I like a good, clean smooth crust. Does the Pam give you that?
I will keep my Wilton Cake Release! Just last night I was making a last minute cake and decided to try the pam for baking (with flour) instead of cake release. Well, the cake technically didn't stick, but the edges and bottom of the cake (the crust part) stayed in the pan. I think if I ever run out of michael's coupons (for cake releae) I will try making my own. I just wish I knew a good way to get rid of this PAM junk!

That's the same exact problem I've had with the sprays. The cake comes out but the very thin layer of crust that makes the cake so smooth stays in the pan coating the sides and bottom. It makes for more crumbs when frosting.
I love the Pam with flour, too. To avoid the clean up of overspray, I just open my dishwasher, put the pans on the door and spray. The door is cleaned when I run off dishwasher! I can't remember where I saw this tip, but anything to make clean up easier works for me!

I love the idea of using your dishwasher as a "table" for spraying the pam. I hate stepping on greasy spots all over my floor!!!
And if you accidentally get something other than the pan sprayed (and who hasn't? ), it's ok because it will get cleaned when you run off the dishwasher!

I use Wiltons Cake release too. I've never found a great pastry brush so I just use a paper towel to apply the cake release. Never had any problems.
I have always been a Baker's Joy fanatic , but I too had a coupon and could get double off, so I tried the Pam and WOW, it not only coats evenly but it doesn't have that chemical like smell. It actually smells like cake to me !! I am now a Pam fanatic !!
Might be a little late coming in this topic but I had to say, I went threw 3 or 4 brushes before i bought one that didn't shed. I dish wash it and use it alot! It's KA brand. Found it @ Kohl's on sale. Cost a little more, but you get what you pay for i guess. I've had it about a year with not one bristle shed.
