Can you freeze royal icing decorated cookies?

Can I freeze cookies decorated with royal icing or will the condensation cause the icing to thin and discolor?

I don't freeze my cookies once they're decorated. The icing will bleed when they begin to thaw. Decorated sugar cookies do stay fresh for a very long time well-wrapped and at room temperature, so if you need to make them ahead, freshness shouldn't be a problem. I usually bake mine up to a week beforehand, store them in tupperware, and decorate at least two days before the event so that the icing dries completely.

It would be best to freeze them undecorated then thaw and decorate. Some cookies reach their peak around 2-3 days at room temperature (especially if the butter content is high). After that they are not as fresh. Other cookies the flavors intensify even more after 2-3 days. It really depends on the type of Cookie.

But yes, either bake the cookies and freeze them OR freeze the dough, thaw and bake THEN decorate. But don't decorate and freeze.

I have successfully frozen cookies with royal icing. Let them thaw without touching them until the condensation evaporates. I have not done them using and dark colorations, so it is true that they might bleed.

I generally use a base of white and pastels - no trouble with colors bleeding and they taste better and fresher than if they were just sitting around.
Cake. So many flavors, so little time.

I make lots of cookie around the holidays & I freeze them all the time . But I have never frozen a decorated cookie. I would take them out and decorate the night before I need them.
