Hi,

I did a cake this weekend and wanted to do a BCT on the side of the cake. I did the transfer and placed in the freezer. When I removed it to add it to the cake, it started to melt really quickly AND did not want to stick to the side AND as I was trying to peel off the wax paper it wouldn't come off because the icing was getting really soft. icon_cry.gif

I managed to get around it this time but I am just trying to figure out what I did wrong. Was my icing for the transfer too soft? Was I using the correct wax paper?

Any ideas or help will be appreciated.

Regards
Shamani

It sounds like your icing was too thin.. It neeeds to be a good medium to med-stiff consistency. Don't give up, I think it just takes some practice...

mmmm, how long did you freeze it? ATLEAST half an hour or more. What type of icing did you use? I have used softer icing and had the same problem. Even if your using different icing to frost the cake, you should use a stirdy icing for the transfer. How quick did you work with it? Don't panick or anything but once you get it out of the freezer, be ready to place it. Also, I noticed where your from, is it hot or humid? That could also make a difference. I don't know if this was your first try but, don't give up. If you can figure out what works for you, you'll love using this technique.

I have a feeling that the icing was way too soft....

Yes, it was a pretty hot day and yes it was the first time I've tried doing a transfer. When I wanted to apply it to the side of the cake it actually started to fall 'cause it did not attach to the cake.

yeah I think I'll give it another try with a firmer icing. icon_redface.gif

Thanks for the advice

Did you add an extra layer to the top (back)of your design? That will help make it thicker and come off of the paper easier. Also, I try to have everything in ready so that when I take it out of the freezer it is ready to be placed on the cake. Oh, one other thing, sometimes I will add just a little bit of icing (from a bag) to the back of the bct before I place it and this seems to help it stick better! Good luck and hope this helps some.
