Hi, all ~

I've seen pics of cakes frosted with BC and with royal icing flowers on the site. This is okay, right? How long will they last on the cake before they start to break down?
Thanks,
Julie

Oh, no problem!! They will last as long as the cake does.

I've been going by the 24hr rule. I don't put royal icing decorations on more than 24 hours prior to the cake being delivered/eaten if possible. If not possible, I do it as last minute as possible.

I've never really had an issue with BC breaking down the RI flowers......the 24 hour rule sounds good though!

If the royal icing flowers were done well in advance, and are well dried there will not be a problem.

I've been told not to chill royal icing. If this is true, you don't want to put them on until the day of the event.

The only problem I've had with royal flowers is if they're touching other RI flowers with darker colors, they may bleed, but even then only after a couple days.

I've never had a problem with the royal breaking down either.

I've put cakes with buttercream, and royal icing flowers in the fridge the day before..dozens, if not 100's of times over 24 years. I've never had a problem at all. My flowers are made well in advance and are very dry. I have noticed sometimes that they are not as hard after sitting on the cake a while, but they are nowhere near the disintegrating stage.
