Hey everyone...Let me share my great night with you...
My brother had a huge grand opening party for his new office (M.D.) and of course, I made the cake....
not only did I get a million cake inquiries, but he hung two of my paintings on his walls and people were talking about them all night. I felt like this was my night!! I was actually in tears yesterday cause my mom came over and she told me that my brother was admiring the paintings (which were sitting in my parents' house for the past 2 years) and he was saying "I can't believe my sister painted those..." Isn't that so sweet?!!
So, here is the picture...I needed it to be a little masculine, hence the "mosaic look"....
Thanks guys....
What a great feeling for you!!! Congrats!!!!
That cake is beautiful!!! Would you mind sharing the details with us??? GREAT job!
Wow... what an amazing cake, fabulous work !!!

Thanks everyone!! Mamaf....the cakes were chocolate, chocolate orange buttercream filling and frosting, and Amaretto chocolate ganache on top. (My brother loves chocolate). It was so moist and rich....I used the extender recipe. The swirls and flowers are all fondant. Honestly, I ran out of time....I wanted the entire cake to be painted but I had to leave it at some point. I have a sickness....it's the "I-can't-leave-well-enough-alone" syndrome....
the mosaic is all fondant also....I used the petal pans (which, unless I am specifically asked to) I will never use again. It was such a royal pain in the butt to do all those individual petal.....holy cow! But I worked out a system and it started going faster (towards the end, of course)....anyway...I then painted some random tiles and that's it....
The only bad part was that I was ill-prepared for the design. I usually draw the cake in detail and work off that but I didn't do that this time and my creative juices were frozen.
Oh yeah...I forgot to add that I added the topper at the party and I am waiting for my other brother to email me a photo of that. I made the medical symbol (The wings and the snakes) out of fondant...it was all gold and it looked great....I'll post when I have it....
Phew...this is too long...sorry....
I'm very impressed with this one! It is perfect..more colored tiles would have taken away from it. SO sweet that your brother loves you as he does. Congrats to both of you.
WOW! I can't believe that's all fondant. The flowers and scrolls are perfect!!! You should be SOOO proud! It looks awesome!
I am at a loss for words.....this is extraordinary!!!! You are amazing and should feel sooooooooo proud of yourself. CONGRATULATIONS on such amazing talent.
That is an amazing looking cake!!! I was floored when I saw it!! It is so beautiful-and masculine. There is an elegance about it that I can't put into words!! You are an artist of the best kind!! I can't wait to see it with the topper. You should be so proud of yourself!! Congrats on the admiring looks and such on your art and your cake!!

WOWEE!!! That's unbelievable!
It looks like a Mondrian painting, especially because you didn't paint all the tiles...which, I agree with Mudpie, would have taken away the effect you've created.
This looks like one of those Colette Peters' "how-the-%$#@&-did-she-do-that-and-is-it-really-a-cake?" fantasy creations!!!

I'll add my "Holy Cows" to this, what a super job you did on this cake! I love how you have just the right smount of colors included! Perfect!
This was my reaction when I saw the pics of your cake. It's gorgeous! You deserve to be very proud of yourself for such a wonderful creation!
It sounds like it really was your night. The cake is great. Way to go. Congratulations!!
