Clay Cake Toppers??

if i were to make keepsake cake toppers out of polymer or sculpey clay...and baked them hard would they be ok to place on cakes ??

I don't see why not, once there baked and cooled they should be fine. My kids have "Gum Savers" made out of the (backed) polymer clay and they don't have any problems. That's a cute idea BTW!

No problem ... I've done it several times now! It's been very popular when the couple has a unique situation and they don't want the traditional figures on top (or they just want something more personal!)

However, I've always used some sort of support under the figures ... that makes sure they are level and not going to get sticky or coloured from your icing (I've used little mirrored acrylic discs, or little square mirrors ... try the dollar store - they're sold as candle stands) If you're putting them on fondant it's not as big a deal, but you still don't want to get anything on the figures!

ty i planned on useing barriers under them.... i like the mini mirror idea i have a buch of them that i got on clearence...

I woudn't put it directly on the cake. I would put a covered cake board or something else between it and the cake.
