I would LOVE to know what kind of disasters happens to the likes of Collette Peters, Ron Ben Israel, etc....

Not to rejoice in their disaster, God forbid, but to maybe feel a little better when I have my own.... Knowing that it happens to the best of the best too... icon_redface.gif

I was baking a cake at thought I had set the oven to 350 degrees. Well, when the bell rang and I opened the oven, the cake wasn't done yet, so I said to myself, Gosh, it should be done.. then I happened to check the oven temp and I had set it to 300 degrees!!!! YIKES!. icon_cry.gif I adjusted the temp and gave it more time hoping that it would be okay.

It sank a bit in the middle, but it was okay... BOY, it sure crossed my mind the thought of disasters in the kitchens of the big and famous!!!

hasn't it happened to you?

Yes, I learned that you can not walk away from a chocolate cake when it's almost done baking. It went from not done to singed in under 5min.

I am sure they have had even more disasters than we have. I imagine you have to mess up several times to learn how to just get it right. I think on my worst days is when I know exactly what I won't do the next time. icon_smile.gif

I think disasters happen to the best and maybe even more often because of the number and complexity of projects they take on. Try watching a few of the Food Network challenges (especially the sugar and chocolate ones). Something is always going wrong...breaking, falling. It's nerve wracking just watching!

Hey MariaLovesCake--

I was making a 12 X 18 X 3 cake, put it in the oven for the required 90 minutes. When the timer went off, I kept thinking that I didn't smell cake. Opened the oven door, and there the batter sat in a stone, cold oven...I had forgot to turn the oven on!!!

After I had my ranting fit, I told my DH what I had done. He is banished from the kitchen from now on--he nearly hurt himself laughing.

What did you husband do? Did he distract you? I know they can do that!!! icon_biggrin.gif

I have had my mishaps of course, cakes sinking, didn't set the right temp on the oven.. etc.

Baking scratch cakes can be tricky... Even when you do exactly what do, mishaps can happen....
