I've always loved to cook, but now I've learned to love to cake decorate.
I'm the only one in my family, everyone else just loves to eat my creations. My sister in law apparently likes or knows how to decorate, and you'd think we'd love to talk about it, but since she hates my guts, she has never opened her mouth to say anythink EVER about my cakes. And she's eaten many of them.

Wow!! You sound very upset! Come on..she must have said something about your cakes...if you both decorate, you both know what kind of work goes into your creations! I'm sure she doesn't hate your guts! Why would she..all of us cake decorators are so sweet icon_biggrin.gif

The only thing that she's ever mentioned anything about my cakes is when I made my daughter's dragon tales cake. She said cute. That's all.
My house is very often the gattering place for our family, my husbands and mine. I make dinner and cake, try to make them all very comfortable, and everyone talks about the cake, asking questions, giving comments, etc. But I've never heard her say anything about anything at all. She's more experienced, and the times when I tryed to talk to her about the cake decorating business, her answer is always a mumbel and very short. Why she hates my guts, I really don't know. I've been more than kind and generous. Oh, well. Not my loss. Her choice.

Get it "sweet" !! (ha ha) But seriously, my sister in law used to decorate and we both really enjoyed each others cakes, and ideas. But now she does not do it very much at all, now that their kids are older.

Maybe something happened. Sometimes people send off vibrations or signals. And sometimes those received are accurate and sometimes they get misinterpreted. So, something could have happened in either direction. Maybe she's just one of those shy quiet types...lots of those around.

Well, that's why we are all here!

Emi,

Other than your SIL being into decorating, I think we have the same SIL. The first time I made a cake (covered with Easter Lillies) all she did was say she would never waste her time making something like that. Ever since has never said a word about my cakes (and some of them were amazing). She hates me too, it's a shame because I'd like nothing more than to be friends. Oh well, what can you do?

Your post just struck home a little. Sorry your SIL is such a b*tch.

My 13 year old took all the wilton classes this year, but she is more interested in playing the saxophone, flute, piccolo, fife, doing beading, knitting and crocheting, playing with her dog and birds and doing her homework. Hmmm perhaps she has enough on her plate.
Actually she likes to decorate, but doesn't like to practice.
Maybe someday she will enjoy it as much as I do.

WHy do you guys think people HATE you...that is very harsh on yourselves. I know sometimes people get upset with me, or maybe don't like me, but I don't think they HATE me. I don't HATE anyone, so Maybe I'm naive, but that makes me think no one HATES me. (are you sure it isn't the other way around?Maybe you are transferring the feeling?? icon_confused.gif )

More optimistically, and more likely, maybe you guys misinterpret. like I said before, maybe she is shy/quiet type. I know when I was in shool, some people thought bad of me because I was quiet. (After they got to know me they told me that.) And we ended up being very good friends long term. So, I speak from experience.

Bet my husband wishes I was still the quiet type every so often!! icon_biggrin.gif

SHe's a busy and talented girl!!!
No matter what, it will be something she uses in life, and a fun creative outlet. It may even help her in the workplace..bakery, DQ, stuff like that..a skill that is useful! Would be a nice first job!

Mudpie,
She's not shy. I thought so at first, until I saw her the way she acts around her family. In fact her family( mom, cousins ..) is the same way towards me as she is. I caught them all looking at me on different occasions, but never said hi or anything at all. I had to go to her mom to say she had a hardworking daughter who did a great job, she only laughed and walked away. We attended the christening and first b-day of my nephew, and I commented many times on the cakes she baked and decorated. She really did a great job, I told her so, and I meant it. If it's not hate, then what can it possibly be? Dislike and jelousy?
Again, her loss.

Oh boy. What did I start here?

I left the site and thought about what I wrote and came back to clarify..because I didn't want to insinuate or hurt anyone's feelings by implying jealousy or hate on their own part. icon_redface.gif

But now I will say this in reply;

Is it just the time of year or what? Everyone is so sensitive around here lately. SO many feelings getting hurt.

I'm sure she is MORE comfortable around her OWN family, I mean who isn't? Do our husbands belch as much in public or around relatives than at home??? (ok, maybe that was a bad example! As some of them do! icon_lol.gif )

I think sometimes if we don't care for someone, then every little thing they do, OR don't do, is fuel to the fire. Seems like maybe you are being too sensitive as many of us girls can be.

As I said, sometimes we do things to offend others and don't realize it. That doesn't mean those people dislike you or are jealous. Jealuosy and hate are evil emotions. I am pretty well read on the subject of human nature. ANd many times we transfer our own feelings on to someone else. (Meaning, because we don't like them, hate them or whatever.. we say they are that way about us) Maybe deep down you just don't like her and maybe she senses that. (Just as you sense that feeling) Well, knowing us girls, something must have happened sometime. Look deep within and you will find the answer.

Good luck to you, Mudpie
And now I will try to tapedshut.gif (I love to talk, can you tell)

NOw what about the rest of you..do you have FRIENDS who decorate?!!

I have a cousin who decorates cakes and she sells them professionally. She has been an inspiration to me and helps me heaps with her advice ect., I would be lost without her support. Maybe your sister in law feels a little jelous of your abilities, I have looked at your cakes and they are wonderful, don't let the negativity get in the way of your creativness.

[quote="SUELA"]I know 4 other instructors in Ottawa...
mudpie, are you an instructor?

Suela:
No. I'm not an instructor. I just was commenting that WIlton is huge..obviously a long-lived product and still in demand..yet most of us don't know anyone else "into" it other than ourselves. That's why I originally posed the question...I've known a few people in the field, and a couple people who used to do it but don't anymore.

I would like to apologize and clarify if i may..

To cakes by ellen and emi...
I apologize if I myself added fuel to the fire.
You were just venting.

We all need a place to vent, it's just that with the way things have been prone to escalating here lately (as we all saw with the posts that had to be deleted) I just sort of feel bad for people who can't defend themselves. And we've all been in that position.

I always see two sides to every story..(which can make it difficult sometimes)

There have been a couple other threads I replied to, then changed my mind and erased it before I hit submit. There's another heated one going on last nite.

Guess yesterday I was just in a conversational mood.

I was trying to help..but i am positive it came across differntly.

When it comes to cake decorating, it's me and only me. But I am very lucky, my neighbour Jackie comes over and helped me out more then once. Thanks Jackie.

AND I have all of you on this site that help me decorate.

Thanks everyone for all your help.

Mudpie,
No need to appologize, but thanks anyway. You were simply expressing your thoughts, and we're all allowed to do that. I can't expect you to understand what I didn't fully explain. So no big deal. Take care.
Emi
