Pumpkin Roll Question... - Page 4

tcturtleshell: Picture it in steps...
- lay down towel and sprinkle with powdered sugar
- flip pumpkin roll onto towel
-peel off waxed paper
At this point the pumpkin roll is laying on the towel - start with a corner and roll the cake with the towel - I hope this helps

Sometimes I have a hard time picturing things also...its easier when its in front of me

OK...I made one yesterday for practice. Pretty easy! Although I wasn't sure how to flip the pumpkin roll onto the towel. I was afraid it would fall apart. So I laid the towel on top of the roll, then flipped.

So, one roll/recipe. And you all charge ~$12 or so?

Haven't eaten it yet...hope it tastes ok. And yes, I made sure to get the puree. I read somewhere else about that, so I made sure. thumbs_up.gif

Oh, and with all these questions...there should be a tutorial...complete with pictures!!!

Pooker - I used to be afraid of them falling apart also...you should see me now - I just take them from the oven and throw them on the towel icon_lol.gif You'll have to let us know how it came out.

I just wanted to add that you all inpired me to make a pumpkin roll yesterday - as I want to bring some to my outlaws for thanksgiving. I used the "verybestbaking" recipe and it turned out sooooo yummy. I am going to try out some of the other recipes too to find my favorite!!

Thanks everyone for all the tips! It was really easy to do!

ge978 - I made one this morning and bravely flipped it - easy! icon_lol.gif

Now if I can just get it to not stick! I put so much powdered sugar on there, I thought for sure it wouldn't but it did! icon_rolleyes.gif

They are so addictive! YUM-MY!!!

Oh, and I'm using the Libby's recipe.

Pooker - I'm glad it flipped okay for you...its all in the wrist icon_lol.gif Did it stick to the towel? Maybe it was the towel..I use linen ones - they seem to work the best. Sometimes no matter what you do they are going to stick anyway thumbsdown.gif They are addictive though icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks Ge & Pooker!! I have the picture in my head now!! Light bulb finally came on!!! icon_eek.gif

I also remembered back when my Mom used to make them! That helped too. I would have called her for help but her & my dad have went on a Fall trip to OK to see the fall colors SINCE we don't get a pretty fall turn of colors here in "good ole" Louisiana! They wouldn't let me come icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

OK, so you bake in in a 15x10 jelly roll pan. Do you start rolling from the 15" side or the 10" side?

I think I'm going to buy a thin linen towel and give this one a try this year. Do you decorate it or just sprinkle with powdered sugar?

Thanks for all the good info!

First, I would roll from the 10" side if I were you. Second, you can sprinkle with powdered sugar or you can decorate. It's up to you. I am making one that I will cover in white chocolate ganache (colored dk. brown) to look like a yule log.

I've rolled from both sides...

If you roll from the 15 inch side, you can cut them in half and have 2 smaller ones...

Mmmm, covering it? Makes me want to make a giant Ho-Ho - ala Ding Dong Cake!!!

I know what you mean TC!!!

I have to share the stroy behind the whole pumpkin roll thing. My mom works in a nursing home, and several years ago, a girl that worked for her made the pumpkin rolls and sold them to other co-workers. They went nuts over them. Well, the girl hasn't worked there in YEARS, but they still hound my mom every year for these p.r.! So, my mom asked me if I'd give it a go. Sure, why not? So I sent one in with my mom for samples, and then she takes orders.

Someone today said my rumpkin roll was like cocaine! icon_eek.gif My mom hooks them with a sample, and keeps 'em coming back for more! icon_lol.gif

Just yesterday, I got orders for 13 for Thursday! I will be a busy woman today! And already 12 orders for Christmas!!! icon_eek.gif

You go Pooker! Can you say, "I'm in the money....!"

Pooker: Great job on your orders! Most of my orders came from a nursing home also. People love these things..they are very addicting.

I made a bunch last night. I was looking for something to wrap them in, but I couldn't find any holidayish saran wrap. I did find those clear bags you put around cookie trays...they were decorated cute. I just cut them, put the pumpkin roll in them, & tied the ends with ribbon. I got a few orders just from that. Just an idea in case anyone wanted one icon_biggrin.gif
