Hi,

Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question but I'm not sure what shortening is. We have a white margerine and then a yellow butter. When you guys talk of Crisco is that a hardish kind of margerine? icon_confused.gif

It is a solid vegetable oil that has a low melting temperature. It is similar to butter, but is not margarine. Crisco is a name brand for shortening. I hope this helps. icon_biggrin.gif

The main difference between margarine & shortening is that margarine has water, usually salt, usually milk proteins and other flavoring and coloring added. Shortening is flavorless and is pretty much just the solidified vegetable oil (probably preservatives added).
