My DH was the best man at his friend's wedding. It was his friend's first marriage but the bride's second. Her adult son was there and when my DH made the toast at the reception he called them by name to congratulate them but accidently said the son's name rather than the groom's name. Oops!

heres a long one: I did a cake this last summer for an old friends sister.. i love the family and have done about 4 major cakes for events in their lives.. i never charge them as they always buy a lot of supplies.. mom gave me 2 full sets of round pans.. anyway.. i was having difficulty this last summer with my bc recipe.. we had an unusual amount of humidity and i've never experienced it causing trouble before.. sooo i made the cakes.. 14 of them, with a fountain underneath.. big stuff... my mom (a seasoned decorator) and my dad (helpful hands) helped me take it to the venue.. they hadnt turned on the a/c all day and the cake table was next to the kitchen.. needless to say by the time we put the cakes together on the table the bc was just slidding off the very moist cakes.. a few cakes were red velvet and the bc was literally pulling the cake apart.. so you'd think this was bad enough.. well we fixed it as best as we could.. i was so embarrassed and upset cuz the family meant so much to me.. so finally they decide to cut the cake... all thru the reception i was standing by it keeping it from tipping over.. and oddly enough it didnt.. but there was a very drunk aunt who approached me as i was cutting it up for the guests... she basically attacked me and asked how on earth could i deliver a cake like that, she said she was a pastry chef and said she's never seen "rolled fondant" like that.. i told her it was b/c.. and she started yelling at me.. i'm standing there with a big knife in my hand and trying to keep it together as guests are lined up at the table.. then she starts poking her finger in all the cakes pointing at the drooping pipe work and borders.. i explained the humidity and my recipe giving me trouble and the a/c, but she kept screaming at me.. everyone was embarrassed for me..she said the bride should get her money back.. i said that i did this for the family for free because i care for them deeply and she started screaming "you put no love in this piece of crap", finally i just stopped looking at her and stopped responding altogether.. that pissed her off so much she grabbed the top of the cake, pulled it off the supports and took it to her table and ate it with a fork... (the grandmother and another aunt helped scarf it down).. i was sooo upset.. the next day the brother of the bride called and said she ended up throwing a drink in his face that night and she stole all of the centerpieces that the bride hand made... grrr..

Just wanted to say that this is a great thread!!!

I guess I didn't really have any problems during my wedding, but I was a bridesmaid in my DH's cousin's wedding. It was in a church, and there were beautiful candelabras set up. Well, the church had a ceiling fan above where the pulpit would have been (it had been moved for the wedding). Right in the middle of the ceremony, we started smelling something, we look up and the heat from the candles had started burning the ceiling fan. The blades were plastic made to look like wood, so they were melting and starting to droop down.... The bride and groom didn't notice until one of the groomsmen went up and started trying to put it out. They never stopped the ceremony, just kept going through all of the drama! It was pretty funny afterwards, since no one and nothing but the fan was hurt.

this happened the night before our wedding..we are both from hispanic backgroundsbut his family is from S. American mine from Puerto Rico..we were both born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. OUr different backgrounds was a big issue to his family. Why? Don't know. In my family we don't care about nationality, race, etc.

The night before our wedding my mom goes into her friend's store where they sell religous things and also herbs and I guess witchcraft stuff. She saw his grandmother asking for some type of spell to put on the girlfriend of her grandson...ME!!! My mother let her have it.

None of his family showed up to our wedding..I wasn't good enough for him. Our marriage wouldn't last a year.

To top it off his mom calls me and demands to know why her and her husband's name are not on the wedding invitation. WHAT?????? I told her because you aren't coming to the wedding, you are opposed to the wedding and you've call me every name in the book, that's why!!!

Well..guess what? We will be married 20 years this year!!!! HA HA HA HA

Meanwhile, his sister got divorced less than a year after she married.

I was at a wedding a while back for my husband's college friend. It was the strangest wedding ever - the bride wore navy blue, the "Maid of Honor" was a man (in a suit - no dress lol), and the reception was 8 hours long with only two trays of appetizers as the food - no meal!! The couple really loved to dance, so they wanted a whole day of dancing but forgot about the food. Needless to say by the end of the night with no food in their tummies and drinking all day long everyone was so drunk, people were throwing up in the bathrooms, the hallway and upstairs in their hotel rooms. Not a good sign of a good wedding.

Funny stuff!! Great thread. One moment sticks out in my mind the most-

It was my good friend's wedding and a distant relative decided to start stripping on one of the tables during a fun song. Let me paint the picture for you- About 400 guests. He's about 60, completely drunk, and had quite a taut belly on him. Someone stopped him before his pants came off!!

What class! I say don't invite that aunt to any more parties! If she was some fabulous pastry chef, why didn't SHE make them the cake??? And after she heard you did it for free she should have shut up. Sounds like she was bitter - maybe b/c she wasn't asked to make the cake...... but her behavior was uncalled for!

Okay my story:

I was a bridesmaid in a wedding. I told the "coordinator" I didn't know exactly what to do - when to walk down the aisle. Well she says she'll tell me when. All of a sudden she tells me to go - no music playing, no groomsmen, no groom, not even the minister up at the front of the aisle..... but I go anyway.... so I walk VERY slowly down the aisle praying the groomsmen and everyone would come in soon..... nope. I walk down the whole aisle by myself. Then when I get to the end, the photographer leans over and says "you're going to have to do it again". I wanted to die. So I go all the way around the church and now I go in right before the bride and I have to explain to her why I'm now at the back of the church instead of the front..... so then I walk down the aisle again (quickly this time). Later on at the reception, those who couldn't really see the front of the church very well kept asking me if I was a twin! Of course there weren't two of me in the front of the church but heck I walked down the aisle twice - I can understand their confusion! I was so embarrassed! We just laugh about it now though.

My wedding:
A lot of things went wrong at my wedding but I tried to just brush them off - we were an hour late starting b/c we got married at Churchill Downs (race track) and they decided to change the gate at the last minute where people would enter. We had a limo driving all of our out of town guests to the wedding and it had to make 3 trips - but b/c of hte gate change, it took him a LOT longer. So our reception was cut short, our florist and videographer and harpist and guests were made to sit for an hour (outside)... and now we have one hour on our videotape of nothing but the harpist playing, wiping sweat off her face, and rolling her eyes! I felt so bad for all of the guests - and then people had to leave early! I was disappointed but I'm still married and things ended up going pretty well.... I wouldn't recommend getting married there though - at least not without a professional coordinator to coordinate it all.... oh and right after the wedding - the minister had to tell everyone to get up and get to the reception quickly b/c the sprinklers were going to come on! WHAT? Why wouldn't you turn the sprinklers off or put them on a delay????? Oh well! Makes a funny story, huh?

TYE: Wow, Girl. Just.....wow. You handled yourself like a pro.

I used to have this friend. This was back in the 80's, before the days of good quality video and sound. Remember those HUGE video cameras they used to make? The ones that were the size of like a briefcase? Yeah. Well, when this girl got married, they filmed her wedding with one of those big ol' honkin' things.

Anyway--you get the picture. Big ruffly dresses, bridesmaids in colors like TEAL and PEACH. Smallish wedding, everyone standing at the front of the church, preacher saying the vows to the couple, church is deathly quiet, because the harpist was too much cash, and blah...blah...blah.

Then, out of the side of the video camera, right into the microphone-----"BRRRrrrrrrTTt!" One of the girl's friends (who was not picked to be a bridesmaid, thankfully!) just ripped a big one off. I'm sure it was not intentional ( ) but---??!!

Not only was it on film for posterity, but the poor quality of sound recording back then on those cameras just made it sound so....so...LOUD.

OMG Knox! I am literally sitting her with my mouth dropped open! Its not very often that I can't find words, but this is one time, I just .............. OMG! Wouldn't that be awful?

For the bride? Or the farter?

Either way--I wasn't at the wedding. (my invitation was a huge scandalous thing between these two friends--the jealous bride and the jealous friend type thing)

But--I DID get to watch it on video. Complete with "stereophonic" Sony sound!!

We didn't have any major problems when we got married. Just one possible disaster. The rehearsal was on Friday at 3 in the afternoon and the rehearsal dinner wasn't until 7. We should have had plenty of time to finish the rehearsal, go home and get cleaned up, and head into the city for dinner. On the way home from the rehearsal I was supposed to go by and pick up my wedding dress. Oops. We had issues with my aunt getting lost and missing the entire rehearsal which wasn't anything major but after that she wanted to be led to the hotel. I said we could do it because we had to head that direction anyway to go back home. We stopped by the store where they had rented the tuxedos so my cousin could pick his up and while he's trying it on I suddenly realized that I didn't have my dress. Called Mom and asked, "what am I going to wear tomorrow?" She didn't quite get it so I asked again. Suddenly she's screaming into the phone and about had a heart attack. She called the bridal shop who would be open for 20 minutes - not long enough for me to get back over there. They said they had no problem waiting until I got there - they kept the shop open just for me (thank goodness!!).

And after all that....the next day...getting ready...did the make up and hair and all that good stuff. And totally forgot to put the dress on until about 10 minutes before I was supposed to be walking down the aisle. My husband told me later that somehow he knew exactly what was going on without anybody telling him. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not!

Ok gotta add to the crazy wedding stories.

First one is a burning one Real quick one of the candelbras got knocked over by ringbearer. I never seen grown men move so fast Seriously no one was hurt. Just got a big scare

Second This one was tragic. My sisters wedding. Our Granpa passed away the night of rehearsal supper. That tragic as it was wasn't the kicker. The grooms family were total a$$e$. They couldn't understand why we would postpone the wedding. And proceeded to trash there rented tuxes. Smeared them with lipstick and grass stains then tossed them on my moms steps. Everyone worked with mysister on rearranging the wdding due to the situation. But since they trashed the tuxes. The new groomsmen had to pay full price How insensitive can a person be to do that And to have them thrown on my MOMS steps. It was her Father

Third was my BIL and SIL. It was funny yet not. My DS was ring bearer at age 4 or 5. And flowergirl was 3 or 4. Flowergirl got bored during ceremony and went up behind the minister to play. Caught on TAPE she was drawing in the BIG BIBLE They didn't know this happened till after the WEDDING. My DS didn't draw in it but he stood there and watched.

Fourth Our wedding. Our Quaint country church on a very hot MAY Memorial weekend . No Air conditioning. My son is 6 yrs old and best man. Dressed in a white tux(TOTALLY CUTE) first of all has to be jealous of ring bearer. Ringbearer is walking up with my Matron of honors DD. And he wants to walk with the little girl. So Ok I say He can. Igo to another room to get ready. He goes to the bathroom. We all walk up the ilse. Standing there starting to take our vows. We also exchange Unity Necklaces to join our family. I notice he is all untucked So I bend over and start tucking him in. I am a MOM I didn't hear the soft chuckles. Our wedding didn't have a dry eye in the house anyway. My StepDAD had passed away. So my MOM gave me away. And everyone knew how much DH and I had went through to get to the wedding. So my DS situation was a good thing. THERE ARE SOME AWESOME PICTURES. I had a great photographer. She caught the whole thing. I wouldn't change it for the world. It showed the true unity of our family Especially my DH face looking at me like you need to tuck it in there. Priceless

One of my best friends got married a few years back. another one of our friends dad is a minister so he did the outdoor ceremony. at the end of the ceremony, the minister dad was looking in my direction.. i was sitting next to another friend (we'll call him Jonathan SMith). it got to the end part "now for the first time, i'd like to introduce you to mr and mrs Jonathan Smith!" he corrected himself after we all started laughing....

That is really gross - I can't believe anyone would serve any part of the cake period. Birds can carry many, many diseases
