What does it mean when people say the cake has filling? Do you put a filling between layers of cake before you put the icing?

If thats right what are the best combos for filling and cake?

Please forgive me for this question. icon_biggrin.gif

Yes the filling is in between the cake layers. There are so many different things you can use as filling....buttercream, ganache, preserves, mousse etc.

As for what are the best combos....there are a million of those also and it depends on what you like. I am sure lots of people will have inputs on this!

That is exactly right...some torte the layers also.

They use lemon, raspberry, strawberry, etc. Before putting the filling on, make a good size dam to keep the filling from spilling over the edges.

Also, what I do is put icing on the torted layers to keep the filling from soaking the cakes.
