Hi all...

I am planning to make a strawberry cake mix & use the cake mix extender on this site. What would you add to keep the cake tasting strawberry & not lose that flavor by adding the additional ingredients? Any suggestions?? Thanks...

I'd add a box of strawberry pudding. Yummy! icon_biggrin.gif

..if you don't have strawberry pudding you could use vanilla and add some strawberry extract. The combination of the strawberry and vanilla sound yummy. Just a thought!

I went & looked for strawberry pudding & they didnt have that flavor icon_sad.gif So I am wondering... the cake mix extender recipe I am using from this site calls for sour cream or yogurt, I have always used sour cream, but do you think I should try strawberry yogurt? Has anyone used yogurt instead of sour cream & how did it turn out? Thanks....

I used yogurt in my last recipe. It tastes really awsome. You get a great tangy flavor and it makes the cake very moist. I love that tangy flavor from plain yogurt ,but you don't get it from the strawberry flavored yogurts becvause fo all the sugar they add. Maybe you could add some strawberry perserves or jam instead of strawberry flavored yogurt and still use the sour cream?

MrsMissey, I've never heard of straberry extract. I agree vanilla with strawberry sounds very good.

If you can find strawberry candy oil maybe you can use that! That'd definately make it very strawberry flavored. icon_biggrin.gif

I've made a strawberry cake and used the cake mix extender. I used strawberry flavored yogurt to keep the flavor. it was wonderful. I also used the strawberry extract....got it at walmart.

Thanks everyone.... I made the cake last night & used strawberry yogurt in place of the sourcream. It turned out really really good. I made a 10" round & some cupcakes with the left over & they were yummy & I don't even usually like strawberry cake. Anyway... thanks again for all the suggestions, I will post the cake after it is decorated... if it turns out OK!! icon_smile.gif

Thanks,

Katie
