Hi! I just wanted to tell everyone about a few exciting updates going on with my cake life.
First of all, I got a call from the director of the bridal show in my area, and she told me I was accepted to partcipate. That means I'll be mentioned on the radio at least 1200 times (that will span 6 radio stations in the area). It is expensive, but with that kind of exposure, it will be worth it.
I am nervous, because the only other lady in the show is the not so nice lady who charges crazy money for her cakes. My hub and I are doubling our efforts to bring something refreshing and unique to the show. If you all have any suggestions on a few good cakes to do for a bridal show, I'm all ears (or eyes!)
Secondly, we may be renting some window space with our name "Clarencedale Cake", our website, and phone number and a "By Appointment Only" sign. I've called a few people. This will keep us visible, but we can still work out of our upstairs.
Third, the lady with whom I spoke at Clear Channel radio is also a wedding planner in her spare time. We really hit it off, and she is going to try to get me exposure at her dad's restaurant!!
Finally, I made sugar bear baskets!! I posted some mini bear cookies yesterday that were easy and cute. Nothing out of the ordinary, but I was looking for something fun, fast and yummy for a craft show coming up. So I put the 3 little bears in a mini basket with a bow, and they are so cute!! I think they'd be great for a shower or an employee Christmas gift.
Here is a pic!!
Ok, that is all my exciting news!! Sorry for the long explanation!!
Ellen
congrats!!! i am most excited about you getting to do the wedding show, because i was upset that one mean lady could control everything.
and a window front!!!!
wow!!
God is really blessing you!!!
melody
Wonderful news about the show! Congratulations!
Say... does this mean that from here on YOU get first rights of refusal and can lock other cake designers out?
I hope you have lots of cards and pamphlets ready and are fully stocked up on flour and sugar for all the orders that will come in! Keep a tight reign on that schedule book, too!
Hope it goes really well for you.
I wish you luck as well the only thing that i would add is that you are an amazing cake artist. Im sure that yopu have already thought of it but make sure to show your range ....
WOW!!
What GREAT news!! I'm so glad it all worked out for you!
I wish you all the best! I think you are going to do GREAT!
GOOD LUCK!!!!
Thank you for all of your good will!! I am sure I will have the full update after January 15th....until then, I'm gonna be workin' off my heiny trying to get it all accomplished. Melody, Yes!! He's been very good to me. I feel that this is the direction I'm getting pushed into. All the good stuff and positive feelings mean that I'm on the right path.
Lasting moments , traci----too sweet of you to say.
Have a great night!
Ellen
So much good news! Congratulations. After seeing your pictures, I'm sure the bridal show is going to be a huge success. Best of luck to you. BTW, I love the bears in a basket. They are too cute.
you are sooo lucky!
i can't wait until i can have a kitchen and be licensed and do that kind of stuff!! it' just that right now, it's too much of an investment (i'm only 19) but i reallly reallly would love to get into that one day.
This is so wonderful for you. Make sure to download the items you decide to make as I'm sure we will all be rooting for you.
Thanks! I called a few places on the window space with no luck, but I am not a quitter, so I'll continue on with that. If anyone has a good suggestion for what kind of cakes to do for the show, I'd really appreciate it! Anyone with experience with bridal shows?? I'll take any advice offered! Ellen
Sorry I can't help with the display question,
But wanted to Congratulate you and wish you the very, very best of luck!!!!!
Awwh, the three bears in the basket are just adorable, what a cute set-up and display!
Good for you, sounds like all is going really well. Hhmn, one thing we learned from Martha Stewart, don't be too definitive about colours cakes are available in, remember the pink oval cakes off centre with the bow, didn't do well.
Sounds like neutral is the way to go, people can always order in their wedding colours. A contemporary, a traditional , a very decorative and detailed cake, perhaps an off the wall cake too? Unless you want to cater to one specific market with one specific price guideline, I think it is a good idea to have a fairly broad spectre of choices and price lines.
Good luck to you, this all sounds so exciting!
Hugs Squirrelly
I have no advise on the bridal show, but wanted to Congratulate you! Best of luck and keep us posted
Ellepal...
!!!Congratulations! I'm super excited for you! Best of luck in your upcoming endeavors!!!
I have a suggestion for you for the bridal show. I think it would be awesome if for one of your exhibition tables you did a "peaches table" showcasing your individual peach cakes. You could do something like this:
1) Circle or square Wedding cake with sugared peaches as decorations (or some variation of this)with dainty sugarpaste peach blossoms perhaps with a monogram topper
2) Your mini peach cakes wrapped as favors
3)Individual table cakes on cake stands decorated with dainty peach blossoms with your individual peach cakes surrounding them
4) Cupcakes and/or mini cakes decorated int he same theme
5) Circle or Square (opposite of wedding cake)chocolate grooms cake decorated with your peaches
(The cake I have in mind is the chocolate square practice cake from heavenlycakes...it inspired in me this idea based on your peach minis)
That way, you have a tablescape showing off all of the different options you could make for the brides. I know if I would have seen your peach cakes at the bridal shows I went to in MI, IN & OH before I got married...I would have HAD TO HAVE THEM!
Then, like Squirrely said, another table with a whole range of cakes... to show off your full range.
I don't know if its an option for you, but if you can provide samples, definitely do! And don't scrimp on the pretty packaging of the samples and very pretty contact/pricing/info material! I know when I attended the 15+ bridal shows before my wedding, those things really made the difference to me.
I hope that helps some. I am soooo excited for you! I hope you hit a home run!!
Gosh, Cande...every one of those ideas sounds just beautiful!!! I love ellepal's peach cakes too...waiting for an occasion or customer to make them for!
Hi: Is there a recipe for a peach cake. If so would love to recipe for it. Thanks. Vicki0052
