in my Wilton classes we were supposed to use the following crisco only recipe:

1 cup solid vegetable shortening
1 teaspoon Clear Vanilla
4 cups sifted confectioners' sugar (approx. 1 lb.)
2 tablespoons water or milk

It makes a very useable icing, especially for practicing, but I found it tasted aweful and left a film in your mouth so I began to use 1/2 crisco and 1/2 butter.

3/4 - cup milk or water

I'm not sure if this is the same recipe cakefairy uses but it's highly rated.

In the grocery store where I shop, it's located in the aisle with all the other dessert mixes and kits. Jello cheesecake kits, oreo crumbs are in that same section.

here is the crisco recipe I use....its the best I have found so far.

3/4C Crisco
6C confectioners sugar
1/2C water
1/2tsp salt
1tsp butter flavoring
1tsp vanilla extract(or Wilton Clear Vanilla Flavoring)
1/3C non dairy coffee creamer(powdered)

mix all together and beat on high for about 5 minutes.
I use it for piping decorations also.
