I was just on Toba Garrett's site and she has the most amazing and perfect looking cookies!! It says the cookies are covered with a rolled sugar icing. What is that? Would love to get my cookies to look like that?! icon_biggrin.gif

I realize that maybe she meant i cing for rolled sugar cookies, but I took it to mean a rolled fondant type icing. I have heard of that for cookies, and that's what I'm looking for an answer to. Any thoughts?

It doesnt say how big it is, its beautiful for sure.....

I like the part where it suggests to give it to your new neighbors. icon_lol.gif I'm all for being neighborly but gosh that is kinda over doing it.

How many of those do you think she sells in a year?

Wow! I can't image getting that much for a cookie.

Anyone ever try using MMF on their cookies? I made a bunch of flowers for a friend's birthday, decorated them with MMF and she liked them. They were pretty, but I think I like the taste of BC or RI better.

I have done MMF and Satin Ice on cookies....it is the best and I'm never going back to a RI base. I didn't taste much of a difference and in fact, had a blind taste test with a friend of mine! Fondant covered cookies are just so fast, it's well worth the extra cost.

I saw those cookies too. I was stunned at her prices but if she can get that much for her work then more power to her. She is pretty awesome. Oh and when you get a chance go look at Neiman Marcus' cakes. They sell 7 inch square cakes with fondant bows and accents for something like $280. And the work is good but there are tons of CCers that do just as good if not better work. I can't imagine paying $280 for a 7" cake. Insane!

Is Satin Ice like MMF?

Oops. I misquoted. Neiman Marcus' cakes are $174 for a seven inch cake plus $25 shipping. Still a lot of money! Here's a link to one:

Oh and MelZ, Satin Ice is fondant and it tastes wonderful! I used it to cover sugar cookies and my husband who doesn't like fondant loved the cookies.

Her book, Creative Cookies, has those very same cookies (and how to make them). She fails to mention how much they are worth, however. Wow. icon_eek.gif

How do you make cookies covered in fondant? Obviously I've never made them, but I think they look great! Do you pour the fondant on while warm, or glue on the premade stuff......help!

You can "glue on" the premade stuff, but the best way.....while the cookies are cutting, I roll out the fondant and cut out the shapes (using the same cookie cutter as the cookies). As soon as the cookies are out of the oven, I place the fondant on top. It kind of melts right into the cookie. I've used both MMF and Satin Ice to do this. I can get the Satin Ice thinner, so I prefer that. The MMF was a little sweeter. Both fondants were less sweet than a RI base.

HTH!

I have just used the link to view the cakes and cookies on her site. They are very beautiful, no doubt about it but I have definitely seen equally beautiful cakes and cookies on this site, keep up the good work CCers!
The real beauty with the things people on this site make is that it is affordable and within most peoples reach. Like most people could afford a taste of some of the beautiful creations on this site!

IMO isn't that what it's really all about? Being able to make something beautiful with your own two hands and share it with others? And if you make a little money along the way even better! Being able to make something is a "gift" but making it affordable and being able to share it is IMO a greater gift!
