A Phal and a Moth are the same orchid. I would buy the Scott Woolley one with the cutter included, if you get the one from First Impressions you will have to buy the cutters anyway.

And if you are interested in a really good gumpaste book on Orchids, get Alan Dunn's
Sugar Orchids For Cakes

The Scott Woolley cutters are the same as the Sunflower cutters (SCW cutters made by sunflower). I have also analysed the 2 photos and they are the same.

If you anticipate you won't be making heaps of orchids in the future, you could just make templates and not buy cutters. I made all the moth orchids in my gallery without a cutter. But the veiners are worth it because they add realism.

If you know what the little bits and bobs are for (in the great impressions set) I'd love to know!

The cutters aren't that expensive, and make life a lot easier, imho.

So basicly if i buy a cutter and a veiner I should be fine! That would be a cheap way of collecting and making lots of different types of flowers. Does anyone know go websites to get affordable cutters and such...?
Thanks

Yes, and no. If you want to do a wireless orchid you will need some type of former. Otherwise you will need to roll your gumpaste with a ridge for the back of the petal in which to thread the floral wire. You can do that with just a gumpaste rolling pin and a flat board, but it is much more delicate if you use a ridged cel board for making the wired petals.

The gumpaste tools in this kit can be found on several websites, but not all in the same place. Check Nicholas Lodge, Scott Woolley, Sugarcraft, and Sweet Celebrations.
