Howdy all!
I just came home with the 3D mini bear pan. I have a cake roder for a baby shower with it on top. I have never used a mold like this before. Any suggestions for me? I figure I would ask and learn from everyone else instead of messing up at the last minute.
I would appreciate any suggestions you can give me after your experiences with this pan.
Thanks!

Hi There

The first time I used my stand up bear pan I had a bit of trouble with it. I had never taken a cake decorating course before I used this pan (not that you need the course) so I didn't have the pan grease recipe ( a god-send I must say icon_lol.gif ). So that's my tip, use the pan grease - if you don't have that recipe let me know, I can send it to you. Maybe it's on this site somewhere.... I think I also let it cool by leaving it in the pan and removing the top half of the pan.

Hope it all works out and that my 2 cents helps you. icon_biggrin.gif

i love making the bear pan, my best advice, is to make sure your batter is thick and not runny, as far as greasing the pan I have used the spray with the flour added in and sometime the butter spray. I have a couple of pics post if you would like to look at them.
I found the mini bear harder to decorate than the regular size pan. good luck

I use a pound cake batter. I spray the pan with Pam with Flour. Be especially careful when you unmold the bear. Let it cool completely. Hope this helps.

I tap the pan a little on the counter to make sure all the air bubbles are out and all of the cracks and crevices are filled.

Follow the cooling instructions closely.

I also had more trouble decorating the mini than the large one, but less problems with it remaining in tact. (no head falling on the floor stories like I have read about)

If the head should happen to fall off-don't panic! some folks actually remove them on purpose and dowel them.

I just did the mini bear pan for the first time with no instructions, and it seemed to work out. I overfilled the pan, and the batter leaked out all over the cookie sheet, but in a way, that was good because at least the bear wasn't too short. I ended up making the bear in a bathtub. (it's posted in my photos). I had a hard time piping and decorating this bear, but I think she turned out ok....she does look like she's a wet bear. Post pics when you are done! Ellen

I used a Betty Crocker cake mix (with pudding already in the mix). I used lots of spray! I had no problems with it at all, I just love this pan.

Be sure you put it on another pan however since it will probably overflow and spill. Also cool it on one side, then take off the pan. Do the same for the other side. You shouldnt have any problems icon_smile.gif

I thought the mini bear was easier to decorate than the larger one. I hold the bear in my hand to frost the bottom 1/3 of it and then place it on the cake so i don't have to worry about messing up my top of the cake trying to decorate the bottom of the bear. GL on your cake!

I have had some experience with this demon bear. I must have tried to bake this cake about 15 times. Every time, the neck cracked and the head fell off - EVERY TIME. I don't know if anyone else had this problem, but it drove me crazy. I tried different greasing methods, cake batters, and freezing it right after it came out of the oven. I found the durable cake for 3D and wedding cakes recipe on this site, and it finally worked. I was so suprised when that little crack wasn't there. I jumped up and down. I called my husband at work, and of course he didn't care, but I thought it was a big deal. It was a great feeling conquering that demon bear. thumbs_up.gif
