icon_sad.gif I don't have the cars lightening mcqueen cake pan nor do i wish to buy another. I do however have the race car cake pan. Can i use this to make the mcqueen 3-d cake. i need it for the 24th of february or is there another way. If anyone has any ideas i could really use the boost.
this is the first cake in almost a year that i will be making and i'm really having a time getting my mind working. i didn't make any last year cause my mom was sick with cancer and i was busy taking care of her.
If anyone has instructions or ideas they could share i would greatly appreciate it. Here's hoping i get off to a good start.
Thanks for any help i may get.

Yes! I think there are even some in the galleries done this way...if you search for "Cars" or "McQueen" several different versions will come up. If it doesn't HAVE to be a shaped cake, try a buttercream transfer...I did one of of Lightening McQueen on a 9" round and it turned out great!

That's exactly what I did for an order this summer. I didn't think that the Lightning pan would get much use once the movie had run its course, so I opted to buy the Nascar pan and just decorated it to look like Lightning. I didn't even have to do the complicated Rust-eze logo because of the angle of the hood. Check it out in my photos to see how easy it is. Also cheated and made a Cozy Cone motel cake instead of the Sally car the mom wanted to order. I convinced her I had a much better idea!

I had the same problem when it was my son's birthday but it was because the cars pan was sold out everywhere. I used the race car pan and I think I like the look of it better anyway. There is a picture of it in my photos. You can PM me if you need more instructions.

Which car cake pan do you have? Is it the NASCAR shaped pan or the Wilton 3D car pan (to me it looks like a VW Beatle)? I believe either could be used. If I were using the 3D pan I would modify by cutting the top part of the cake to make it slope down from front to back. To me that would give it more of a race car/McQueen appearance. I am thinking of doing this for my son's birthday next month. Good luck to you!

Sure, it'll work just fine.

I have the Wilton 3D cruiser pan and did 2 different McQueen cakes. The only addition I made was to add a gumpaste spoiler on the back.

I'm sure the Nascar pan is probably even a better shape than the Curiser pan, so you should have no problem decorating it like Lightning McQueen.

Good luck! Post a pic when you're done.

Hello everyone. IMy son is about to turn 5 on the 13 of March. I have 2 days to find a good detailed decription of how to make a 3d lighting mcQueen and a fairly large one....to feed about 15-25 people and only today to figure out what I need for the recipe. I am unfamiliar with fondant, never used it, and could use a less sweet recipe for buttercream icing as that is what I plan to use since I've no idea how to make or use fondant . PLEASE, anyone with ANY ideas, contact me! [email protected] am desperate! Also I do not have a 3d pan of any kind so I basically have to cut the cake to shape. Can any1 tell me how to do it.
