I was making valentine cookies to take to work and got bored with simple icing. So, I embossed some RBC with lace makers and other types of gumpaste cutters and then cut out shapes and froze them. I like the technique of popping frozen RBC cutouts onto hot cookies, and was surprised that the heat didn't do away with the embossed texture. If the people at work like these as much as I do, they may become my "signature" cookie. I posted them in my pix. What do you think?

What a wonderful idea! Looks more elegant than just the run-of-the-mill designs that I do. Hmm, I have cookies covered in white RBC/MMF combo waiting to be decorated.....maybe I will experiment too!

Isn't it fun using different textures with the RBC! I use textured rolling pins quite often and love the effect! Great idea to make a "signature" cookie! Also, your cookies are beautiful!

Thanks for the positve feedback. I really, really liked how they turned out...and I'm a tough self-critic.

As for recipe...it was a very simple one. Equal parts of Karo and Crisco, mixed until it's smooth. Then, knead in powdered sugar until it kinda resembles a soft fondant. The directions didn't call for flavor, but I kneaded in Lorann flavor oils.

And tutorials..hmmmm....maybe after I get my cookie cutter materials, I'll make some cutters that fit the lace molds I have...and do one then. It's really so simple, though. I know Cammie has tried something like this, if not this very thing. Surely this idea isn't original to me. ????

I do like it, though. Seems tailor-made for V-day.

Thank you for this tip! I have commited myself to do a cookie bouquet and platter for my cousin's bridal shower and was stressing as to how to decorate tons of cookies while working full time and entertaining my 18 month old. This is going to be a lifesaver!!

Thank you!! icon_biggrin.gifthumbs_up.gif

Crimsicle, I really like your cookies alot! Can I ask what a lacemaker is though?

I used to be an advid rubber stamper and have LOTS (maybe 5,000) stamps around here that I don't use anymore! I was going to start trying to sell them and I saw this last night and told hubby I just might have to keep them now... icon_wink.gif ...LOL

Thank You for sharing your idea!

Those are gorgeous! I'll have to try that when I cover cookies with Chocolate clay too! They would look SUPER DUPER pretty if you dusted them with pink luster dust too! (Im a luster dust freak!)

Lacemakers are hard plastic presses that you use to emboss lace designs on fondant and gumpaste. I bought all of mine at a cake show, but I know they are available all over the internet. I'm no longer sure of the manufacturers names, since the original packaging material is long gone. Several of them came with teeny tiny cutters to make holes in the shape of ovals, rounds, pearshapes, etc.

Last night I got my cutter-making kit, and I made 3 cutters to fit some of the lace medallion makers. Maybe tonight I'll see how those turn out.

I have wondered how rubber stamps would work for this. Please let us all know.

I said I'd report back after I made a new batch of embossed cookies using the lace maker thingies and custom cutters made to conform to the shape of the lace pieces. I really love this look. Would be perfect for bridal showers, maybe baby showers/christening (I'm on the lookout for something to do an embossed cross with)...or for when you just want something pretty and girly. Latest efforts are in my pix. This is fun and fast (once the cutters are made, that is). I really enjoy doing it - and the outcome.
