Hi, I want to make the jungle cake (monkey, crocodile) that I see here and was wondering if I should add something to the fondant to make it dry/hard? When ever I make MMF here it always gets really sticky (high humitity) looking after some time but not hard. Can I even do it with MMF or should it just be plain fondant? I also have tylose.
Any suggestion wanted please...
Jessica
Have you tried mixing 50 fondant/50 gumpaste? The gumpaste should help it dry hard, but when modeling, the fondant should give you a little extra time to do what you need to (unlike 100% gumpaste).
Good Luck!

I was hoping to use MMF since it's for a kids birthday and you know all kids love MMf! Does anyone know if I can add a lil bit of tylose to make it firm? I guess my main concern is how do you keep it from getting all sticky?
And cornstarch doesn't work, it just gets all blobbed up..
Maybe I can just keep it (figurines) in the fridge until it's time to deliver the cake?
I use tylose all the time to help fondant dry quickly....sometimes if a piece is not too big, I can make it out of fondant and lots of tylose, and set it in a VERY slightly warm oven with the door cracked...and by the time I am finished decorating the cake, the piece is stiff enough to use.
Regular fondant but I don't see why it wouldn't work for MMF....never tried it though.
I read on here that some people add Fixodent denture powder to the MMF. I just bought some and was going to look for the thread. They said it just takes a little and it dries very fast. Maybe someone else knows more about it, or you could do a search with the word Fixodent.
I found the thread!

Hope this helps!
Have any of you ladies ever put a bit of Tylose powder on your tongue. EEEWWW! I did just to see what it would taste like, it turns to instant gummy goo. I had to spit it out and go brush my teeth. I would imagine Gumtex or Fixodent would do about the same thing too. Little children might take one bite, but I bet they won't want a second one.
I couldn't eat it either, but I know of a little guy, who tries to swipe it off my cakes, if he has a chance. If he comes round, i have to be extra vigilent. Different people, different taste I suppose. I have to add some gumtex into my figures bc of humidity and that guy just loves it. If he gets any taller I'l have to lock my pieces into a cupboard
Tiny amount of gumtex that you will add to the fondant to make a figure will not change the taste of the fondant.
