Shipping cakes overseas

Now, I know that there has been some discussion on shipping food items to the troops. While on my lunch break I was looking at some of the websites that I have saved and I found a site that has directions for baking cakes in canning jars, sealing them in the jars and that they have lasted up to 6 months before getting eaten and they were just fine.
Here's the link:

This is pretty neat, I will have to try it over the summer.

You can do breads and cookies and soups and cakes.. now the cookies and the soups are just goign to be the ingredients and your going to make a recipe card and tell them how to make it but your putting all of the ingredients in to this jar in layers but no liquid or butter or such like that .. They are lots of fun..

I saw a special on this on Food Network. A lady had created a home business selling cakes baked in mason jars. She showed how they just popped out of the jar and you were able to slice them into rounds. The cakes looked really moist too! I might just try this for Christmas. The recipes look great. Thanks for all the info m0use and Ladycake!
