Hi everyone this is Chez the 16 year old cake decorator from SC. Just enjoying the site again. I just wanted to get you nice ladies opinion on something. I am having my teacher do me some business cards to kinda get the word out there just a little bit what I am having problems with is the name of the business. I liked Palmetto Cake, being that the state tree in South Carolina is the Palmetto Tree but my mom said use Carolina Cakes....I like them both could I please get your honest opinion. Thanks! Okay next topic I really like to use the Pilsbury cake mix and the cream cheese pound cake as my basic recipies, however the sour cream pound cake just tastes kinda funny with buttercream. It is not as moist as other pound cakes which is all the south really uses when it comes to cakes. Can you reccomed any other pound cake recipies that I could use when a customer wants a homeade cake(which is more expensive) and I just decided that I am going to use Pilsbury when they ask for a regular cake(I AM IN LOVE WITH IT). Sorry I have so much to say. THANK YOU. By the way I am a 16 year old male.

Welcome Chez! I really like the name Carolina Cakes. It just has a nice sound do it ... as far as pound cakes, I also use Pillsbury cake mix as it's my favorite... I like to use the Super Enhanced Cake recipe from here... It has sour cream in it, but I didn't find it taste funny at all with buttercream icing on it ... http://www.cakecentral.com/cake_recipe-1953-2-Super-Enhanced-Cake-Formula.html

This is a fairly dense recipe that has a pound cake quality to it (or it does to me) ...

again, welcome to CakeCentral... we're glad to have you here with us!!

Welcome back Chez!!! I like to use box mixes, Duncan Hines is my favorite, then add a box of pudding, an extra egg and oil. It comes out really dense and moist. I don't have the exact recipe but i can pm it to you if you'd like.

Hi Chez!!

Welcome!! I personally like the sound of Carolina Cakes, I think it is a catchy name!! I too love Pillsbury cake mixes!! I have tried the enhanced recipe on this site using the Pillsbury mix with it and I liked it. It is a denser (if that is a word!) cake like pound cake.
Happy baking and decorating!!!

Hi ya kiddo and glad to hear you're having fun with your biz.

I like Carolina Cakes but I have to vote no on the Palmetto Cakes. Here's the reason, I live in Florida and people say "Palmetto bugs" all the time and they are referring to the biggest nastiest flying roaches. They live in Palmetto trees and I guess that is where they got their name. Just don't want to associate your beautiful cakes with anything buggy. Just my opinion.
