Does this icing harden enough that the cookies can be bagged or stacked? The recipe sounds like it would taste good.
Thanks for your help.

Thank you. I made Toba's icing and it tastes pretty good but I thought this recipe that uses butter might be better. I will give it a try.

Alice's is my favorite. I find that it takes longer to dry than some others, but I think it's worth it. I'm going to make some cookies with it tomorrow and may add another tbs of meringue powder to see if that makes it a little more firm. To me, it's the perfect combination of taste, looks and texture. I do thin mine for flooding, although some will tell you it shouldn't be thinned.

Hi! Could you please tell me what do you thin it with? Milk? water? Also, have you tried adding more merengue powder? I have only used Toba's glace icing but I'm looking for something better.

Thanks,
Naty

I just thin with water, usually. I don't see why you couldn't use milk. I don't know if that would cut down on the sheen, though. Might not. I haven't tried it. What I did do this week was thin with Everclear. UGH!!! It took 3 days for the stuff to dry enough that it didn't burn the tongue. I thought alcohol would make them dry faster for bagging. Nope. Just made 'em taste bad for a while. icon_sad.gif

I have also thinned the icing for flooding, I use a flavored coffee creamer, yummy!

So funny to see this topic today. I printed off this recipe 6 months ago and just got around to giving it a shot. I loved the taste but do have some questions about it.

How HARD does it dry? I know people say it can be stacked and bagged but can it be bumped and not get dented?

How long can cookies stay out since this icing has butter in it? I am use to Antonia76's royal and that can stay out for ever which I like.

Does left over icing need to be stored in the fridge?

Has anyone mixed it with Antonias or sweet annies icing for a happy medium?

What do you do when you need WHITE white? I made a batch of Antonias and oulined in that and did my white details with that, then used Alices to fill in.

Ok I will shut up now and see if anyone has answers for me! THANKS!

Well, I answered some of my own questions.

This stuff does not dry hard enough to package up and ship. The top crusts over but if you touch it they are ruined! I will be using this icing if I have to take a plate of decorated cookies somewhere on a plate but I will not be able to use it for the cookies I am making for my business.

If anyone has ideas on shelf life of alice's icing it would be appreciated.

Good afternoon,
Could you please email me the recipe for your cookie icing?
I made cookies for Valentines day (first time and first time using the icing mentioned above), but they did not dry hard enough to stack even after making them the day before. Tastes great, but could not package.
thank you so much.

I use Toba's and Alices (the modified royal) for all my accents, outlining and writiting. As long as I let it sit out and completely dry 24 hours, then it doesn't get messed up. I've found with the cooler weather lately, I've had to let it set longer though. All my cookies in my pics are done with these icings and I can package them up just fine. Definitely can't "rush" it though so I always make sure to allow me enough time.

Yes the cookies dry hard enough to be bagged and stacked. I've even placed them a shopping bag and transported them without proper packaging and the icing survived. Only one was damaged during that experiment it broke in half but the icing remained intact.

Here is a pic of mine showing cookies all bagged up. These cookies were all decorated using Alice cookie icing.

I would also really appreciate the recipe for baby dea's icing. I know there is a saying you can just not have enough shoes. Well, I'm fine with a pair of sneakers but, you just can have enough icing recipes and this sounds like a good one to have!

Thanks!

Just some quick advice to those of you posting your Emails this is an easy way to become a target for spambots. If you absolutely having to have your EMail posted write it in such a manner that will make it a bit more difficult. For example, abc at zxy dot com
