What Size Board For Cupcake Cakes??

Hi!
I've just started doing cupcake cakes and I know I'll be doing a lot more.
Can anyone tell me what size board you use for the following:
12 cupcakes?
18 cupcakes?
24 cupcakes?
36 cupcakes?
I did one with 18 cupcakes and they fit perfectly onto an 11x17 board.
I think 24 could fit on a 12x17??
Thanks
Hi Tracey,
The size of your board if of course going to depend on the pattern you are doing them it so I don't know how to answer that part of your question but what I can tell you is to make sure it is strong and maybe have a sheet of plywood or something strong underneath. I made a Valentine Cupcake CAke for my daughters class with 24 and when I lifted it and it was double boarded, it bent in half and I almost lost all of the cupcakes, thank goodness I could fix it

yes, i agree. it all depends on the pattern. i made my first cupcake cake and boy was it work. i think i'll only do those when it's for a school function!

Yep- people assume because it's a cupcake that it's easier than a cake... WRONG!!!!!
They are much more time consuming when done properly.
The board depends on you and what you want the look to be. No one can really answer this for you. I like using boards much larger than most people. It just has a more festive look. But your absolutely welcome to streamline and use a board just big enough.
That's funny, I found it much easier than doing a cake!! And I was working under pressure because all my cupcakes got burnt on the bottoms, so I had to mix and bake another batch which almost made me late for my daughter's soccer party I was taking it to!!
Sorry, I should have made myself more clear. The pattern would be just a rectangle to fit the board (with the cupcakes interlocked, if that's what you call it.)[/quote]
I didn't say they are harder, just more time consuming. It takes more time to fill each cupcake liner than to pour batter in to 1-2 pans.
