Painting With Egg Whites?

I just found some instructions for painting cookies with an egg white/sugar base AFTER the cookies are baked. I'm wondering how safe this is?

Well, if you use the powdered egg whites or meringue powder you should be just fine hun. as for the raw egg whites most peeps want to err on the side of caution and leave em out. Good for display but not for the tummy.
Almost sounds like gouache (a tempera egg yolk emulsion that the old masters like rueben and rembrandt used for diptychs and other iconic paintings they did) Makes for a wondrous lustre in the painting and sheesh that stuff lasts like forever...
