Ok I asked for ideas for a Full sheet cake that I am doing next week and Mommykicksbutt gave me a great idea to do a tea pot since that ties in with the theme. Plus they wanted pink roses. So here is my tea pot that I have created. It will set in one corner of the cake with some additional roses and wording on the cake. I need to work on the handle - it is not very stiff - I tried making gumpaste but it turned out way hard and crumbly so this one is made of MMF and is kinda droopy. I also have some creases in my MMF at the bottom of the teapot that I need to work out but other than that any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks! icon_smile.gif

The handle looks okay in the photo. But go with the gumpaste one... because you don't want it to droop off while you move it around. I know from experience and it will move on you. The gumpaste can just be removed and not eaten.
Otherwise... THAT IS THE MOST WONDERFUL CAKE I HAVE IN A LONG TIME>

Awwwww you guys are so nice!!!

I used the sports ball pan and covered it with MMF.

I molded the lid, handle and spout out of MMF and made a "rim" for the top to the cake as well but did not make it flat on top so that the roses would looked more build up.

I know you can add something to the MMF to make it harden more - is that gumpaste - does anyone know how much to add and how long it should take to dry?

The roses are all done out of buttercream.

Thank you so much for all your nice comments!!

That is SOOOOO beautiful! Wow! If you don't really have time to fix the creases you were talking about, just put 1 or 3 small roses over - kind of like they fell out of the teapot. I am definately going to save this cake to my favorites. I just love it! You were looking for a cake that says "WOW" and you definately achieved it!

Hi there....it's really pretty....is it cake inside?

As far as the droopy handle...easy to fix....you can make it out of fondant....just let it dry before you attach it. then you can attach it with royal icing......to make an even stronger bond, you can stick one toothpick on the top part of the handle and one on the bottom...after it dries you can stick them into the teapot. I would still "glue" them with the royal icing.

Wow .. this cake is incredible ... I am truly in awe!!

As for the MMF ... you can add a small amount of Gum-Tex (I think the recommendation is 1 tsp per 12 oz, but i just sprinkle some on w/out measuring) and it will harden up nicely ... tha'ts how i made my MMF roses for my Course 3 cake. To have it harden, add the gum-tex, form the shapes, and just turn a fan on the pieces overnight .. they'll be perfectly set!!

I can't wait to see the final version!! Great job!! thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

Your teapot is gorgeous! I was going to do one a couple of weeks ago but ended up doing the cake like the invitation. An idea I got from the PastryDiva was to make the handle out of baked cookie dough and then cover it with fondant or icing. However...I really love the curly look you have to your handle. I would probably try doing it with the fondant. Good luck...I think this is the prettiest teapot cake that I have seen so far. icon_smile.gif

I'm sure you know by now that you did a very nice job!
All I want to suggest is that you try Nicholas Lodge's gumpaste recipe. It is made using Tylose and you can never go wrong with it. It dries beautifully and pretty quick once you stop working on it. You can get it on his website www.nicholaslodge.com

I think it's absolutely gorgeous.

I also would just add gum-tex to the MMF, and 1 tsp. to 12 oz. is correct. It should harden pretty well in a day or two depending on humidity in your area and thickness.

I've used the Nicholas Lodge gumpaste, though it was back when I first started decorating, and I found it difficult to work with because it dried too quickly. Will have to try again when I actually have need of it I suppose.
