Ok, so I am looking into maybe, perhaps buying an air brush. For all of you that have them, which one is the best? I am not sure how often I would use it ( I do not do this to make a living, just for people I know, usually) I see all the cools thing can be done with it, and it has peeked my interest. After getting one did anyone think-- oh I shouldn't have? It is difficult to use?? (no formal traing here).

TIA!!!!!!

I've got a badger that I haven't played with yet but I went with that because it only ran me $16 with my Michael's 50% coupon. I heard Norman Love suggests using them for chocolates.

I have a Paasche and I love it. I do not use mine a whole lot either but I have it if I need it. I gave about $52.00 for mine. I friend at work gave me the air compressor so I only money invested in the airbrush.

I bought a KopyKake since it was designed specifically for cake decoration and I love it! (Though it was quite a bit more expensive than the others here ... I spent over $200 CDN, but it comes with the compressor, airbrush, and a set of basic colours)

It takes some practice, but I wouldn't do without it now! The best is that you can get really dark, strong colours without affecting the taste of you cake because all the colour is on the outside so you're not using nearly as much!

Someone (might have been Squirelly, but I'm not sure) posted another thread about single action vs double action airbrushes which might also be helpful. Mine is a double action, and while it was an investment, it was definately worth it for the types of cakes that I do (mostly 3-D fondant covered)

HTH!

charleydog...I have also been wanting to get one. There is a cake store here in my area that sells them for around 250.00. I can't recall what the brand is...but I know that it is a good one. Eventually...I will probably get one but I think my next thing will be one of those really pretty silver cake bases.

Traci... try your local Value Village or thrift shops... they often carry old silver (polish it up and it's better than new!)

I just bought one for my birthday last week and love it. I used it on my 3D pumpkin and the background of my autumn pumpkin scene. It made them look so much better. I went with Roland Winbeckler's recommendations. http://www.winbeckler.com/airbrush_suppliespage_2.asp#Recommended%20Airbrush%20System. I bought the Aztek A470 set on ebay brand new for ~$100 and a mini compressor for $130. I am still learning but love it so far.

duckduck--
You got your airbrush at Michael's? Is it just a regular airbrush?

I need a new toy....but I can't decide which is better.

The airbrush or a projector. My concern is that I am NOT an artist. Can I make an airbrush do majic?

hmmm

I have had my airbrush for about two months and I don't know how I lived without it! I got the kopykake one that is a little more expensive because I read that if you get a smaller less expensive one, you are going to want to get the bigger one to do more things. So I did not want to buy one twice. I do not regret it one bit. I love it and I find so mamy things to use it on. It is so great for those really hard to get colors like red or black. I also use to color my fondant instead of kneading five different colors, you just spray your pieces. I LOVE IT!! Hope this helps. Keli

p.s I was also nervous about getting it and not being able to do much because I had never used one before, but that concern was shortly resolved.
