I have one maybe funny question. I have seen some wedding cakes and other cakes and the fondant has a nice satine shine on it. (i love this look)
I wonderig if you know, if there is some kind of a special fondant on the market that has that shine or you have to make it after you have placed it on the cake with the lusterdusts? Or maybe I can add something to my plane fondant and mix it with something to get that shine.
The best example of what i am talking about is in that colettes page ( the first cake with a bed)

Thanks!
Oh I would guess that is brushed or painted with luster dusts. You can dry brush it on for a shimmery effect or dilute some powder with a clear alcohol (I use vodka)...just a drop...mix it to a loose pasty texture and paint away....
have fun!
Now all I need is a good shop in the net who sells the dusts.
Thanks!
(what would i do without you? Actually I was just wondering today how did I ever managed to live withot CC)
try:

i believe they have it.. I was gonna link you right to it, but my pc is very slow bringing up that homepage...
Good luck
I recently bought some luster dust from my local cake store. The owner of the store said it "paints" best when mixed with everclear. He said it does not affect the taste and will not break down the luster powder. A tip I thought I would share. I have not tried it yet.
traci
very true Traci,
however if I may add a little tip.... everclear evaporates very quickly, you do have to keep adding and mixing, but it works great..
Its alcohol...it is very strong I can not recall what proof but in an earlier post someone said when they poured it into a shot glass it evaporated by the time they put the cap back on the bottle and went to drink the shot... I bekieve it is cheap too...
Everclear is Grain Alcohol -- 190 proof, which translates to 95% alcohol ...
In Massachusetts, it is illegal, which may be why some haven't heard of it. I didn't hear about it till I lived in Florida ...
I have heard of some using Raspberry Vodka -- the idea being that maybe just the hint of the raspberry aroma makes the cake seem more enticing?? I haven't tried that myself yet though.
yes, really you can use a wide variety of things vanilla...any clear alcohol however many say everclear will not leave a taste because it evaporates so fast..
Squires Kitchen produce a dust called Bridal Satin which is designed to be dry brushed over a cake and it give that fantastic shimmery look
