Ok I have to make a sheet cake next week for a Welcome tea. They are using pink roses for the flowers so want pink roses on the cake. No problem I can do that. My dilemma is I want to kick the cake up a notch. I dont want it to look like a run of the mill sheet cake. I want people to ask who made it - there by maybe drumming up some business. icon_smile.gif I was thinking of maybe adding a small basket made out of cake on the top with roses spilling out of it - or something else to give it a bit more. If anyone has an cool idea I would love to hear it. I know with all the creative minds on this website someone will have something great!

Thanks for your help thumbs_up.gif

If you can mold fondant, then the only thing I might add would be a little "wooden" WELCOME sign in front of the basket to give it a cute country feel.

I just made 3 cakes this past week and they all had pink roses on them. Sorry but my camera with the pictures are at home. I got the idea from a cc member-Nati's cakes. Her cakes are very beautiful. On her site there is a cake with green fondant stripes on the sides and the entire top is covered with pink roses. The cake is just beautiful. My cake was very, very similar to that. I used all buttercream and put a bottom border of green grass, and a top border of green leaves. Once I figure out how to post I will give her credit.
Perhaps you could cover the edge with the roses and leave the middle part open for some writing.
Good luck and please post.

You could make the sheet cake look like an old fashioned serving tray and mould a pink "tea set" (3-D) with flowers "painted" on the set with a vase of pink flowers (3-d) and boarder the cake with flowers cascading up and down the sides of the cake, that would be a "little" over the top for a "out of the ordinary" "run of the mill" sheet cake. (a lot more work though but it might be pretty cool!)

How about just basket weaving the sides of the cake with a small round tip like a 7 or 8 and then covering the top with the pink roses and pale green leaves? It is so simple but every time I do a cake like that I get so much business from it. The roses take a long time to make, but they can always be made up in advance - while sitting around watching your favorite tv show in the evenings. Make sure you leave a card holder full of business cards beside the cake!
