What can I use besides fanci-foil and aluminum foil to cover cake boards? Fanci-foil is rather pricey and aluminum foil just doesn't cut it for me. What do you all use?
Thanks!

I've heard of other decoraters using pretty wrapping paper and then covering it with clear mac tac or shelf lining paper. Also tissue paper with the clear Mac tac also.

You can find some pretty designs on contact paper, which you can find pretty cheap at the dollar stores. I used this on my deer cake to give the cake board the wood/panel effect.

Hope this helps!

I have used holiday fabric with clear contact paper over it. I have a picture in my photos with it on a board I used for spider cupcakes.

Another option would be to use the grease proof cake boards...they don't need to be covered with anything.

Also, other options to cover your boards would be fondant or royal icing!

For birthday and party cakes, I just ice the board thinly with a crusting bc and decorate it to go along with the overall theme.

Since the stores are starting to carry it, I've been eyeing the christmas foil wrapping paper. It's SO much cheaper and there are some nice, not-too-obviously-christmassy designs and you can get it in huge rolls.

Any problems with this that we know about?

I'm not crazy about foil either.

I've been looking at the scrapbooking paper (12x12) and have found some nice sheets that I've covered boards with. I've only done smaller boards at this point, so 12x12 is enough. I put the paper on, then cover with clear contact. Looks great and (I think) so much better than foil!

for plain everyday boards i use white contact. For a little fancier look, i'll use a marble contact (goes with everything) Now if its an extra special cake i'll use wrapping paper with the clear contact over it. For weddings i use fondant with a ribbon on the edge of the board.
