Hi. My husband and I just decided to pursue the cake decorating business dream, and we have no idea where to start. Do I need a license for a home business? Where can I find the different state laws for home businesses? Any advice? Any input would be greatly appreciated. By the way, I live in Tennessee. Thanks.

It would be a good idea to contact the health department to see what the procedure in getting your kitchen approved. You might even be able to try to find some information online for your state. I also think it would be a good idea to build a website for your customers to view. It is always nice to have that when you give out your business cards...it makes it easy for the customers to look at your designs. Best of luck to you in your new business adventure. icon_smile.gif

Hi suzystewart,

I'm going through the same thing right now in Va. I looked in the phone book gov't pages for business licensing office. When I called them, they filled me in on who to call for zoning info and such. I know in Va you have to get an inspection by the dept of agriculture, since it's home based, as well as a letter from the zoning board before you can get your license. Then as long as you don't advertise at your home or use your home address, everything is pretty much set.

Hope this helped.
