Hi everyone!
I was wondering what your experience with the KitchenAid mixer is? Since I live outside of North America, a mixer here will cost me US$600. icon_cry.gif Is it worth it? Will it really last me forever? icon_rolleyes.gif

Thanks for your help!

In Canada, the newest 6 quart works out to cost about that too. I don't have the new one, but I would say that any Kitchen Aid is worth the money, new or second hand re-furbished, whatever size or model you can afford. There may be the odd lemon out there, but on the whole people have these for 25-30 years. It is my favourite possession!

I love mine.

I used to mix all my batters by hand - and that was fine - but once my mixer came into my life, everything got a lot easier. Especially for cheesecakes and large cake batters.

I have been using mine HARD for 25 years. I recently bought a larger one but to my sons dissapointment I kept and still use the old one. When I bake two come in handy.

My oldest son has my grandmothers from the 1950's he did need to have it refurbished but it only cost him $60 to get it up to full speed and install a grounded cord.

so will It last??? yes

EBay has them all the time will someone there ship??? got to be a cheaper way how about a trip to the states???

They are more than worth the money! I got one right before I did my first wedding cake and I couldn't imagine NOT having one, especially to do a wedding cake or going through a weekend with several cake orders. They are wonderful!

Well, I have the best Grandmaw ever she called me last week and told me she wanted me to have her kitchenaid it is 325 watts with 5 qt bowl with handle, she said she never used it and it only took up space on her counter so I got it over the weekend and I have no orders this week so I have not got to use it yet! Bummer! I get a new toy and have no reason to play with it. Boy, she sure looks pretty sitting on my counter though!

Becca it is well worth the money, but as someone else suggested check out ebay, or KA.com(with KA spelled out). There is an outlet on the site that sells the refurbished ones. KA is GREAT. I have a 6qt. Professional series and I love it. It's like a part of the family. I protect it like it is one of my kids. icon_biggrin.gif

With the holidays around the corner, there will be discounts for online retailers. Check ww.ecoupon.com or any other online coupon website icon_smile.gif

What I've been told is there is a major difference between the old ones and the new ones. The old ones have Hobart motors in them and they hold up to just about anything. I bought an old one off of ebay. The new ones have motors made by whirlpool, I believe, and it's my understanding that you can burn them out especially if you ever use it for bread. I know someone that works in a bakery that says he can burn out a new one in a matter of months. Everyone here seems to be commenting on "grandma's" old mixer. Anyone have a brand spanking new one? Less than a year with heavy use?

Here's a discussion about problems people have had with newer mixer on another site.

I like my kitchen aid but I LOVE my Viking!!! MY kitchen aid is the std 4 1/2 qt 300 watt, my Viking is 7qt and 1000 watts!!!! (I know! what's next? a Hobart?). We find the std Kitchen aid here on sale for about $160 USD. Where do you live that it would cost soooo much?

My grandmother still uses here kitchen aid, going on 62 years now (the kitchen aid not my grandmother - she's older but doesn't look or act it!)

I agree with duckduck.I love my KA........................but I'm on my third one.(3 in 2 1/2 years)Brand new 6 quart. I keep burning them up!!I use mine 6 days a week for about 8 hours a day.(I really need to invest in a bigger more heavy duty one.) But for the home baker it would last forever.

Will www.amazon.com ship them to where you are? I got my refurbished one for under $150, and absolutely love it - it looks brand new too.

Check the Friday sales - they often have the KA mixers on sale then

I got my KA (4.5 qt. 300 watt) a few months ago and can't believe the difference it makes in the quality of anything you mix. I bought mine at Wal*Mart. I'm not sure if your walmart carries them or not. Its worth a look. Mine cost me just under $200. Now that I have it I would not want to live without it!! Good luck, i hope you find one!
