Hey Friends,

I just wanted to share w/ ya'll that I FINALLY passed my CDL test!! I have been busy doing my school bus training. I have 2 more days & I'll be finished! So far I love it! I get home from training today & my 15 yr old daughter says Mom, check the answering machine. I was afraid to check it because she was acting very suspicious. I told her no, I didn't want to check the message. She pleaded w/ me but I still wouldn't check it! Finally she said, Well then I'll hit play & you will have to listen to the message. Once it started I was in shock! It was a man who owns a bakery.. he stopped into my friends cake supply store. He asked them if they knew anyone who might be interested in decorating cakes w/ him... they told him about ME!! I had no idea! He was calling to ask me if I would be interested in working for him part time or full time. He said he wanted to meet me & I could call him anytime.

The bad part... I just started doing the school bus thing!! This couldn't have come at a worse time!! icon_sad.gif I'm afraid to call him. icon_cry.gif I have worked so hard to get my CDL's. This has been a goal of mine for a long time! I finally went out & did it.. & now I get a call from a bakery!! Ahhhh!!! I will call the man tomorrow.. I'm so curious about this job... I will have to go see his bakery!

Just wanted to share that w/ my cake friends~ Bad timing or what???
Ya'll have a Blessed Day~ thumbs_up.gif

Congrats on the CDL! The bakery might be a blessing in disguise. Talk the man . . . he did say part-time or full time, you might be able to do both! You never know until you try!

Good luck!!

The bakery thing!! Congrats on that too!! Maybe he will be willing to work around the school bus thing. Like maybe after you drop the kids off in the morning you could go into the bakery?? Anyway, I am very happy for you and I feel for you also!! Good luck on what ever way you decide to go!

Congratulations. I know you have been working very hard lately and you hard work has paid off! I agree that it does not hurt to talk to the bakery guy and see what you can work out. Even if it does not work out now you can leave the door open for the future.

Good Luck.

Definitely call him!! You never know, the times he may need you might not interfere with your busing.

Tina,
CALL HIM! Check him/bakery out, and then make the descision. If you like it then Start out part-time tell him during the summer you can do full time and even like on some of the school holidays. Just be honest and upfront with him letting him know that Decorating means alot to you but you also just accomplished something else that has also meant alot to you and you will be working for the School system driving buses. Give him times that would be appropriate that you can work and can not work. I think that this could totally work to your advantage. Remember God knows how much you can handle and if things get over-whelming, He will let you know what to do. But all in all I want to say Congratulations on them both.
Love you Sis!
Tammy

Congrats on the CDL. I know how hard it is because I am also a school bus driver and have been for the past 5 years. Over where I am at you have to start off as a substitute driver which can be really hard. Have you ever tried to drive a bus while reading directions while trying to control 72 screaming kids? I do have my own route now for special needs children and love it. I just started decorating cakes. I do it mainly for the fun of it. Well good luck with your bus driving. If you ever need to talk just send me a line.

TINA CONGRATULATIONS ON BOTH! YOU WILL MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION. I AGREE WITH TAMMY ON THIS ONE. CHECK HIM AND THE BAKERY OUT. LET HIM KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IS UP WITH YOU AND THAT YOU JUST GOT YOUR CDL. BE HONEST WITH HIM SO HE KNOWS WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM. MAYBE HE WILL WORK WITH YOU AND IT WILL ALL WORK OUT. GOOD LUCK AND KEEP US POSTED. YOU WILL DO GREAT! CATHY

Tina,

A big congrats to you on getting your CDL and job offer.

Talk with the man and inspect him and the bakery out thoroughly to make sure everything is to your liking...not his.

Take a couple of days to wind down from all the excitement before making your final decision.

Hopefully, you might be able to do both...just don't wear yourself out.lol

Ya'll are so encouraging!!! Thanks sooo much!!

I so wish that I would have been able to get my CDL's in Aug but I was sooo busy w/ wedding cakes. So far I love driving! I love cake decorating too but I don't know if I want to make it a career. It might not be fun anymore. I do want to learn much, much more though!! I will let ya'll know if I decided to take the job part time. I haven't called the man yet... been too scared too..

Mic1,
I think there are other bus drivers on CC. I recall 1 or 2. Thank you for your email. I just might need advice! thumbs_up.gif Yes, I have to start out as a sub then get hired when my time comes. We have 220 bus routes & only 12 subs... so I will be very busy!! I just hope the drivers give me good directions! LOL!!

Thanks again my friends! I'll keep you posted!! thumbs_up.gif

Well I called the man! He & his wife who own the bakery want to meet w/ me tomorrow around noon. I am taking all my cake pics w/ me. When I talked to him on the phone he told me he was looking for a mature, responsible decorator. He also said that I can make my own hours! They would be fine w/ me working around my bus job! Sooo, I've decided to go meet w/ them & check them out! If I get very busy w/ cakes I can always not sub for the bus if someone calls me. Doesn't hurt to try this. He also said that his wife would train me on the stuff that I don't know. I'm excited about that! I am always happy to learn new decorating skills!

I'll check back w/ ya'll tomorrow night & let you know what happened! It's nothing but a thang! What happens happens!! icon_smile.gif

Hey again!

Update info... I met w/ the couple today! I really liked them & I think they liked me too! What you see is what you get w/ me! icon_lol.gif They are looking for someone to start in 2 or 3 wks. They have a decorator that isn't doing what she is supposed to do. They are going to fire her but are hoping that she quits before they have to do that. They are very nice & don't like to fire people. They didn't even meet me at the bakery, we met at McDonald's. They didn't want to hurt the decorator's feelings by me coming there! At first I was uncomfortable w/ the situation but soon understood.

They were very pleased w/ the pics of my cakes!! thumbs_up.gif It is sooo wonderful to get great compliments!! The bakery is a creamery. They sell icecream, icecream cakes, & theme cakes. Cakes w/ icecream & covered in ganache w/ candy like snickers & butterfingers. The cakes are pretty. Nothing special like the ideas I had in my head! But that's ok!

I can make my own hours which is wonderful!! I'll get 25 hours a week. I didn't plan on working weekends but they said my hours are up to me! As long as I get the cakes done then that's fine w/ them! I feel they are going to be very easy to work for. They said they won't even bother me.. hmmm sounds great to me! thumbs_up.gif

IF I'm hired, they will send me to Little Rock, Arkansas to go to decorating classes there! Sounds like lots of fun!!

OH... also they said they wanted to meet my daughter! I showed them pics of her BC roses. They were impressed! She might have a future job there... AWESOME!!

Soooooo... I'll keep ya'll posted!! If this job is meant to be then I'll get it. IF not then life goes on!! thumbs_up.gif Thanks for listening to my rambling!! icon_rolleyes.gificon_wink.gif

Hey Tilisha,
I really have no idea where the classes will be. The owners only mentioned they would send me to Little Rock to a class. Any class sounds wonderful to me!! icon_smile.gif I'm always ready to learn!! I guess I'll find out IF they hire me.

Hey guys, I forgot to mention.. the bus driving is going great!! I love it!! I have 2 days to go (next week) then I'll be finished w/ my training. Then start subbing the next day... Ohhh I don't know if I'm ready!!

To my fellow bus drivers/decorator's... Any advice on driving let me have it!! icon_smile.gif
