Need to make a cake for a 8yr girl.
Her dad said she likes "pretty stuff". *sigh* men icon_rolleyes.gif
Was thinking of doing a doll cake but I'm not sure if thats to young.
Any of you with kids out there. What do 8 yr old girls like?

I would think a princess cake would be good...maybe a castle? Hard to say with kids these days, they all seem so grown up!

I have a daughter that just turned 8 in September. She is very into the "princess" thing, that's a great idea. She also loves flowers of all kinds. ( A very girly girl) Maybe you could go with a theme color, and incorporate the princess theme into it, lots of flowers and a tiara of coarse!

What about flowers, purses, shoes, lipsticks that sort of thing? All girls like that. Hard to say about the doll thing, like you said, never know these days.

Good luck though

My daughter is eight and in the third grade. Most of her friends are around eight and they are all into different things. She loves butterflies, tinkerbell, "Winx's club", Bratz and things alongs that line. I would still find out if she has a favorite item and maybe what her favorite color is and use those as starters.

O and ballerina's. She is constantly drawing them and pretending she's one.

dont know if this is too late. i just did one for an 8 year old-no pics yet. i stacked it and made each different sized layer a different color and put a colorflow butterfly on top and edible glitter and used pink royal icing "dots" and put those all over one of the layer put some flowers on it, it was very girlie, i thought, without being too grown up, or too little girlish

I have an almost 8 year old girl. Well...she has gone WAY past the princess thing...but is completely into the make-up/diva concept. We are having her b-day party at this dress-up place in the mall. I will be doing a tiered cake with molded cany make-up and maybe make a half round purse for the top. You could also do a sheet cake with a purse on top. If you do not have the make-up candy mold you could always use some real lipgloss...I do not think she would be dissappointed.

One more idea...I also did a cell phone cake for a girl this same age. It was a huge hit. The picture is in my photos...I used a loaf pan to make the phone.

I agree with the princess/diva theme. I think any girl would like that! I recently did a princess cake (in my profile) for an 8year old girl. She also had her party at one of the dress up places!

I have neices and a granddaughter in this age group and they are into princess stuff, 70s flowers, tiedye and volkswagons, also love kittens and puppies, and Hilary Duff or Avril Lavigne.

Just a note on the makeup theme to check first with the father as some parents are not comfortable with their little girl doing the makeup thing at that age. I know my son would definately be against it for his daughter.

OK, 1st this is NOT my cake but my sister's (cakemommy)! (she is totally awesome!) she just made this and the kid is into the "princess" thing. She bought a dress-up tiara and put it on a decorated cake! The picture is of the BACK of the cake so you can see the detail of what's inside the tiara. The tiara itself says "princess for a day".

What do Daddies consider "pretty things"? If you asked my DH he would say that our 8 year old is into karaoke (she has a really nice voice when she's not trying to sing like pop-princess dujour), or throwing the basketball up trying to atleast hit the basket...... but of course, karaoke and basketball are two of Daddies favorite things, so that makes them purdy in his eyes.

When my baby turned 8 in July all she wanted was a purple and pink cake..... so much fun.... so much fun.....

I have an 8 yr old. I did a ice cream cake for her bday that was in the shape of an ice cream cone and ice cream cone cupcakes. I also love the idea of a big 3d cupcake like I have seen Colette do.

I have a soon to be eight year old girl and she would love the princess thing - and she is not all that girly - mostly plays with boys! Also most girls like Hello Kitty which can be hip and very pretty. I did Hello kitty last year, a castle the year before and a doll cake the year before that (see my photos). But everytime I do a doll cake she swoons over it. So unless your dealing with a tomboy I think anything mentioned in this thread would be just fine! Good luck and dont forget to post!
