Way cool!! I always get comments on how wonderful my cakes taste. I think the biggest difference is the vanilla I use. Always pure, not imitation, I've been using some that my aunt brought me back from a mission trip to Honduras....just ran out though . Maybe this site will have some similar.
MsTonyasCakes,
Can you give me the name of the vanilla you got in Honduras, I would love to try it, I'm just north of Honduras.
Thanks many
I use pure mexican Vanilla. It is very dark, but it has a kick to it. I almost would say a tiny littly bit spicey. It comes in a 1 liter bottle and is only a few buck. It is called "Danncy Vainilla" and tastes soooooooo goooood! I always have to use less then recommendet in the recipe because it is so strong
Esther, I also use Mexican vanilla....it's the richest most wonderful vanilla around. I purchased 4 half gallon jugs of it when I was in Mexico for my honeymoon, but I don't know where else to get it. It's Azteca. I am going to look at the website suggested. My cakes aren't quite the same without it!! Where do you order yours?
I live in central texas and my inlaws in south texas. Either they drive over the border (it's just 20 minutes away) and buy me some or I go over the border when we are down and visit. I also found the 1 liter bottles in a "western store" here in texas(they carry boots, cowboy hats, plaques, even furniture). they sold them for $ 3.95/bottle
Esther...I only use mexican vanilla...and Danncy is my favorite!!! The last batch I bought on ebay...where do you buy yours????
traci
hello traci,
we probably hit "enter" at the same time LOL
I looked for danncy vanilla online and.. OMG! they sell it soooo expensive over here!!! Even on ebay! it's only $ 2 or so in Progresso, MX for the 1 liter bottle. Have three of them in my pantry
p.s. the western store I was talking about is in Round Rock, TX I think
My boyfriend brought me a bottle from Honduras last year, but I haven't used it yet...I usually use Raliegh Vanilla...Double Strength Pure Vanilla. Recently ran out, but if the Honduras Vanilla is that good...maybe I better give it a shot. He's going back in January, and if I like it, I'll get him to bring home more.
citrusgirl, I'll have to find out what kind it is when I get home...I play on CC at work Let ya know tomorrow!
ok citrusgirl, the vanilla I have from Honduras is in a clear plastice bottle, has a brown label with "Esencia de Vainilla Negra" written in yellow. Hope this helps! I love this stuff!! Makes a huge difference in the taste of your cakes. I don't cut the amount, just use what the recipe calls for I told my aunt when she goes back down on a mission trip, I need her to bring me like 4,000 gallons of it!! Good luck!
MsTonyasCakes,
Thanks for the info. I'll start checking around. I was wondering about the brand name, is it printed on the bottle; for example- Dominos, Castilla, Benjamin's etc. I don't waiting until tomorrow.
Just to let you guys know. Pampered Chef has now come out with a Double Strength Pure Bourbon Madagascar Vanilla that stuff is great!! If any one would like more information just let me know.

I started my home-made vanilla about a month and a half ago. I put in the final two beans two weeks ago and according to directions, it should be ready by the end of November. I smells WONDERFUL!!! I am extremely anxious to try it. I got my beans from Penzey's spices - it was a total of $31.32 for 15 madagascar beans. The beans were so much nicer than what they had at the grocery store.
I do have a question for the experts. I was thinking of starting a couple of pints for Christmas presents. Since 5 beans are used for a fifth, would 3 beans do for a pint? And do you prefer vodka or bourbon?
citrusgirl,
Try this (I wish I knew what I was reading! ) It does say Calidad Francelia. Maybe this will help. Didn't see anything about Dominos, Castilla or Benjamins.
Lots of luck to ya!
