I was just wondering who (you, the cake decorator, or the florist) attaches the fresh flowers to a wedding cake? I am yet to do a wedding cake with fresh flowers, but I have read alot of decorators websites that say the florist handles the flowers... is that usually the case?

Well it certainly depends on where you live and what the ettiquette is,My mom has the bride delivery the flowers to her at her home before the wedding like a day or so and she places all flowers on the cake.No florist here will not send someone to set up flowers on the cake...usually the cake decorater does that but in many places that is not so.It depends if you feel comfortable enough arranging flowers and snipping pieces...It really isn't hard!!

I prefer to put my own flowers... I don't trust anyone else. I use flower spikes or saran wrap to protect the cake, I've seen florist stick stems directly into the cake..

I prefer putting the flowers on myself, I like TAMIAZ don't trust anyone else to do it. I figure my name is on the cake (so to speak) so I would rather put the flowers on myself!

I agree...I insist on putting my own flowers on the cakes. I've seen florists lazily stick unwrapped orchids right into cakes (they are toxic!) and often mess up the perfectly smoothed icing.

They can't repair anything they might accidentally do if they mark the cake, so I want to be there to do it myself. At least when the flowers are on, I can take my photographs too!

Thanks for the replies - you all have a really great point - it is your name on the cake...
