Hi guys....Here is my halloween cake.....my son's first grade class loved it! It's the first time the mom's saw my work and it looks like I'll be getting a few orders from them! Yay!

I wish I could enter the Halloween contest but one of the rules is no 2 consecutive wins for the contests. I doubt I would have won ....some of the entries are totally outrageous!!!! Thanks for looking!!! Happy November!

btw...these are actually 3 separate cakes...2 layers apiece and individually covered w/fondant, then I sponge-painted the colors on.....all the decorations are scultped and painted fondant. I love using all the glitters and powders...the effects (in person) are really beautiful.
The orange stuff surrounding the cake is broken sugar "glass". The "stitches" were so fun to do. Thanks guys!

What an adorable cake. You are so creative. Are you self taught or did you take classes...I took Wilton II and III courses, but they don't teach anything like what you can do....Also, I see so many beautiful gumpaste flowers, are these done free hand or with a cutting kit (like the gumpaste flower kit from Wilton)??? I would love to learn to do the flowers and figures, but don't know where to start....

Really cool cake! I wish I were allowed to bake for the kids' classes! Our school district says EVERYTHING has to be store bought, even though I am a quasi pro.

Debsue...That's a shame that you can't show your work off to the mom's in your school....I'm counting on birthday cakes as a big part of my future business. The teacher even wants me to come in and do a lesson with the kids.

Melodyscakes....the class has a contact list with everyone's address and phone number, so if they want me...they know where to find me.....besides...I see them every day at dismissal...

cindy6250....I am self-taught.....I am iffy about taking courses exactly for the reason you stated. For me, the fun is in the creativity and the design of an unusual cake. While, admittedly, I do need some pointers in some of the basics, by reading and asking questions, I have learned just about everything myself. Fortunately, I have found a local store that does the courses, but the instructor is willing to give me a private, custom lesson just to teach me what I want to learn. As far as flowers go, I suggest you read as many tutorials as you can, on this site and others, buy a book, like Wilton's flower instruction book and then just go for it. You will learn by trial and error.

Thanks everyone for the nice remarks....

I can't believe that you said that!!! One of the mom's said the exact same thing when I brought it into the classroom!! Isn't that funny!? I guess the shape of it looks like a candle.

It's always hard to cut into your cakes!!!

Thanks everyone for your compliments!!!!
