with lots of questions. icon_smile.gif
I have a baby shower cake to do and lady that ordered it brought me a napkin to copy. I have never done a BCT or a FBCT. What do you think would be the best way to make this? It will be picked up on Friday.

How do you feel about working with fondant?

I have been looking for a book with instructions on how to make all of the animals in fondant , but haven't had any luck yet.

How many people does it need to serve? I am seeing a couple tiers, bottom striped to match the background and the top a solid color from the napkin (Yellow maybe?!?) and you could make the ark and animals out of fondant for a topper! You could make the seal and the ducks 2D and put them on the side of the top tier and put waves underneath them! The animals would be pretty easy to make out of fondant.
OR...
Instead of making the ark and animals 3D, make them 2D either out of fondant or royal icing (flow in designs) and put them on the side of the top tier and then make clouds on the very top with BC and make a fondant sun and have that stick out of the clouds so you have a bit of a topper effect.
Sorry that is so long! I kinda took it and ran....far! I hope thats pretty easy to understand. I don't put my ideas into words well. But I can see it in my head really well! To bad you can't just climb up there...LOL!
Good luck and definitely post a pic of the final cake!

I forgot to mention size. It will be a 12x18 just one layer.

HeatherMari...I love your idea icon_lol.gif

I was thinking about the flow in method.

Okay, how about this!....Make the 12"x18" sheetcake, ice it in yellow, make a small border around the top (like 1" in or so), stripe up the sides onto the top to meet where you made your border, make a flow in design of the ark and everything and put that in the middle inside the border and pipe a border around the rectangle. That sounds completely confusing even to me and I wrote it! Let me know if you like that idea and I can email you a drawing of what I mean. Maybe that would help!

For directions on how to sculpt animals and such, I have found polymer clay books to be very helpful.

Instead of buttercream transfer, I have taken an image, made a mirror copy of it, and then traced it quickly using black food writer on wax paper, and then turn it over and rub it onto the cake. Then trace and fill in with icing. You have to work kinda quick though so it won't dry on the wax paper.
