My niece really wants a 3D horse cake for her birthday. I've looked at the pictures posted but I don't know where to start. I have the 3D lamb pan. How do I get a horse out of a lamb? Is the nose of the horse just frosting?

I looked at the 3-d horse pics...you should pm one of the gals that made one of those and ask. I dont have that pan so I dunno how to help ya. My best suggestion would be to ask one of them...they are such cute cakes! Looks like they made it look like a horse with just the frosting, but I dunno for sure.
Good luck!

I did a couple of those and yes the nose is just built up icing.

Here is a different 3D horse, I would love to try it sometime!

The horse is under the children's cake category.

I just love it, she's amazing!

Hi there!
I made a horse cake and recently posted it ( look at my pics to see it) and here is how I did mine: I had a small figurine in a similar shape to what I thought a cake could hold up to, ( i'm a horsey person so this may be easier for me than someone else... I found it easier to go off a model even still.), I cut and stacked the frozen cakes where I thought I would need them the most and started sculpting with my electric carving knife, starting with the horse's butt. The nose on my horse is rice krispie treats and so is the front right leg, but the rest is cake. The nose was slightly unstable on my cake, but I held it in with a slew of toothpicks and it didnt go anywhere.

I can send you the Wilton instructions for using the Standup lamb pan to make a horse or unicorn if you PM me your email address. I have a unicorn in my pictures using this pan, I used Blue M&Ms for the eyes and Junior Mints for the nostrils.

Hope this is in time for you.

I just finished the cake. We had some minor and major catastrophies. First the mane slid off. I remembered reading about that possibility and use toothpicks tohold it up. Then when I was almot done frosting the horse, the cake started to crack in half from the weight of the frosting on the head. icon_cry.gif. I threw the cake in the freezer on an angle and went to purchase bamboo skewers to hold it together along with some toothpicks. This morning I started to piece it together with a lot of frosting. It doesn't look bad from the front, but the back looks horrible. Good thing it's only family. I'd do it again because she's my niece, but hopefully next time it would go better.
Thanks for everyone's help.

I think its really cute & you did a great job! Man, I hate those catastrophies! It feels like your heart is falling out of your body right through your feet, doesn't it?

I agree. I thought I would die right then. Thought about throwing it out and never baking another cake again.

And I LOVE when my husband complains after "those" moments, saying that this cake thing is just too stressful on him.... because I get uptight when things go wrong. LOL... He has it tough, eh?
