I just turn around after i put my puppy to sleep and i see two HUGE bites on my cake i just made tonight?!?! I have no clue who the culprit is either because there was no icing on my puppy or the other dog or the two cats. I don't even know how any of them got up there! It was probably my german shepherd puppy ,but i don't know how she'd reach the cake without tipping it or something?? Its a little over 3ft tall and i put the cake almost all the way to the wall? icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif This was going to be the holloween cake to!!! I'd be ok if there was maybe one layer bitten ,but no there has to be two huge bites out of both! I had fondant and candy ready to decorate! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

Do you have any cake scraps in the freezer? If so, you could make some of Toba Garret's spackling...It's cake crumbs mixed with buttercream and a little filling.

Your fondant looks great...Don't feel bad, the same thing happened to me a few months ago...My dog ate a big hunk out of one of my cakes....I ended up having to start all over......It was my own fault, I had been giving him cake scraps and I guess he didn't think I had given him enough.....Anyway, you will be laughing about it before you know it....Consider it a battle scar, and you made lemonade from lemons!!! Good for you!!!

Thanks everyone!

Cindy thanks you and LOL poor dog beng deprived of your wonderful cake scraps!! icon_lol.gificon_wink.gif

I guess my dog decided since i never gave her any she'd grab some for herself.. least i know she liked my cakes enough to take two bites from them. And later on my mini cakes i found a chunk of icing licked off. Lol
She's lucky she's cute!!! Or else she'd be grounded from her extra special treat for a day. icon_razz.gificon_wink.gif

I think they just can't resist that smell....You want to be mad at them, but it can't last, they are just too sweet. I have a big fat female Golden Retriever. The little mooch, was a male golden retriever and I lost him to cancer a little over a month ago...So, even though I was really mad at him at the time, I now think of that incident fondly and always chuckle over it...I didn't punish him at the time, because I knew it was MY fault, it was right where he could reach up and grab a bite...

Aww! Its always those akward incidences that you remembered most! icon_biggrin.gif And your right. It was my fault as well. I thought i put it up high enough ,but i guess not for a german shepherd. I think she's smarter than me. I didn't catch her in the act or even see icing on her at all! I have to give her a treat for being so smart ,but still i worked so hard to smooth out the cake more than i usually do for family cakes.Lol

This is going to turn out to be a contest with me and her! I wonder who will win(probably her).

This is off topic, but I was curious, do you make your cakes from mixes or scratch? You do a great job on your cakes, I bet your parents are really proud!!!

LOL yeah i do ,but i decided since i get an extra hour of sleep tomorow because of daylight savngs i can go tobed a bit later than i usually want.

I mostly do scratch but sometimes do a quick doctored mix. Most of my larger cakes for parties, school, and ect. are scratch. The cake here is a doctored mix because ts jsut a quick practice cake. But the wedding cake in my photos is completely scratch. Its a little extra money and work ,but completely worth it! At least i can tell the difference. LOL

Thank you!! My parents are proud ,but extremely annoyed! LOL I'm baking everyday so my mom never gets a second with a clean kitchen. She's starting to like the idea of getting me my own kitchen in the basement so she can have some peace and a clean room. icon_razz.gif

I usually do doctored cake mixes and get raves, but I think I'm going to start doing some experimenting with scratch too. Do you use Toba Garrett's recipes?

Hey, maybe you can ask for your own kitchen for Christmas!! That would be a fantastic gift...

That'd be a christmas dream come true!!! icon_lol.gif

I mostly use what i find around randomly ,and experiment from there and find what i like best. I experiment alot with cakes so i've settled on some recipes with maybe a couple moderatons that i like. I find my recipes all around the internet ,in some old recipe books, and some family recipes. I'd be happy to share some if you want! I still need to find a good vanilla cake recipe i'm happy with. The last one i made was to dry IMO. Maybe i'm doctoring the mix wrong? How do you doctor your mixes?

Yes, if I'm just doctoring (not extending), I add pudding, an extra egg and a little more oil...If I'm extending, I still add pudding, plus the egg and flour, sugar and vanilla...I use one of the cake mix extender recipes on this site...(whichever one is the highest rated)..My cakes are always really moist. I love a yellow cake mix, it smells sooo good when it's baking and even after...I use DH cake mixes and have only had good results with them.

Hm.. i do exactly what you do for doctoring. Probably is me then! Lol I'll have to try an extending recipe! I have a white cake mix thats screaming to be used in my pantry. Maybe i'll whip up more mini pudding filled cupcakes. I ate all the ones i made today ,and i have plenty of extra pudding left!

Have you ever tried Hershey's hot water cake?

That sounds good...I made 2 white scratch cakes a couple of weeks ago...Then had a taste testing at work....Of course the office was about equally divided on which one was best. Personally, I liked the one with egg whites only, it was really good.
Do you take your baked goods to school and share with friends?

I have to get what I bake out of the house or I would eat it. I take most to work, or my hairdresser or a friend...

Yeah my family doesn't always eat my cakes since i make so many. I wish i could sell them ,but i'm just skimming charging for my cakes(plus i don't have many people in my family close by i can sell my cakes to). Ganna get my cousin to advertise for me at her work and see if i can get a solid job making a cake a month since they order a cake for a person's birthday. It's a start!

If i didn't bring it to school it'd just sit there. LOL I almost never eat any of my cakes, pastries or pies. Maybe one bite or a tiny peice to make sure it tastes ok. LOL

I'll have to make a white cake with just egg whites this time. I didn't do it before because i hate having to waste all those egg yolks! But i made creme brulee this weekend so i have 9 egg whites sitting in the freezer.

hershey's cake recipe: http://cake.allrecipes.com/AZ/HrshysTMPrfctlyChcltChcltC.asp

I LOVE this cake for a quick put together. It tastes soooooo good and is extremely moist. thumbs_up.gif

I will try that one...I think I've seen several people say how good it is...I try to just taste mine too...I lost a lot of weight and don't want to gain it back...
I love sweets, especially chocolate, but I try to limit myself with it....

I made cake balls the other day and they were great...Of course, you could make them but would have to use coffee creamer or coffee syrup or peanut butter....Have you made them? I thought they were great, very much like a truffle.

I use liquor all the time ,but i always cook it to get all of the alcohol. I love using it cakes and cookies.

I was planning to make cake balls tonight ,but i guess they'll have to wait till after trick or treating. I have a bunch of cake over from the min cakes i made.

I really like them, but you don't cook the cake balls, so the liquor stays in them....Anyway, we'll talk more later, you are going to be late for school if you don't go to bed!!!!

If I can ever figure out a way to post my pictures, I will....Right now my scanner is on the blink and I'm on a dinasuar of a computer.....Hope your cake is a big success tomorrow....I am going to get to bed now, my dog is snoring, so I guess I need to take her cue. heehee

I really love cake decorating ,and agree! Its tons of fun! Ooh i'm sorry you have a bad scanner. I've been there before. Everytime i wanted to scan a picture i had to hit the scanner two or three times while in the middle of scanning. Somehow it got stuck. Lol Hope you fix your scanner! I really want to see some of your cakes! Night! icon_biggrin.gif

This reminds me of the time my cat took a big bite out of a bridal shower cake I decorated. That taught me a lesson to use a portable gate to keep the cat out of the kitchen. On another occasion I stayed up all night decorating a cake only to discover, to my horror, that one of my nail tips was missing. I couldn't find it anywhere and assumed the tip dropped into the cake batter...another cake I had to redo. I laugh now thinking about it, but it sure wasn't funny at the time.
