Last year my wife and I were watching a cake show on Food Network. I told her that it didn't look that hard. She told me that I couldn't do it. That was the wrong thing to say. I read, watched, and practiced and entered a easter basket cake in the State Fair at DuQuoin Illinois this year. I got a blue ribbon for the Holiday Cake class and Best of Show for decorated cakes.

Looks great Ken! Congrats on winning a ribbon right off the bat!
Welcome to CC also! I'm in northern IL, just east of Rockford. Looking forward to seeing more pictures.
Happy Baking,
Beth
Wow Mister, congratulations on your success, terrific job, good for you! Lovely cake, the prize was well earned. Hhmn, now you have me thinking, wonder if I bet my hubby that he could not clean out the garage...Haha, well it might work!

Squirrelly Cakes you are so funny. Don't we wish it was that simple
Ken you did a beautiful job. I see why you took Best of Show.
Very nice, Ken. I especially like the paint job, makes the basket look like real rattan.
Keep at it.
Congratulations! So now that you have 'started at the top' what are you going to do from here? Are you planning to continue cake decorating? You obviously have a talent for it!

WOW Super job, great detail on the basket! I wish my hubby could do that, then we both could work on cakes...NOT!!! (his greatest cooking skill is mac & cheese!)
