I just bought her 2 books, Birthday Cakes and Cakes to Dream on and there are isntructions for the advanced cake decorator to make the cakes in the books.

Just wondering has anyone ever tried the directions or attempted some of her cakes?

They are absolutely divine but so intricate, so complex, I just am in awe. I would love to try one.

She does seem to leave out a few details!

Here is my version of her "fish" cake:

Start with one of least complicated cakes and work your way up... I've only made one from her books, but I've wanted to try others.. Maybe someday!! Here's the cake I did...

I would be afraid to try that. I have a hard enough time getting my cakes to stand up straight.

Speaking of Collette Peters . . . She is tentatively scheduled to be teaching a class at Ruth's Sweete Justice here in Oklahoma City sometime in 2006. Information can be obtained from www.oksugarart.com when it is available. I for one will be going! Ruth is going to be offering classes (the Oklahoma Sugar Art Academy) in her bakery and will have many guest teachers. Can't wait to get started!

Hey,
I love Collette Peters! I did a version of her beach wedding cake. I can't seem to get the photo to load here, but it's in my gallery.
P.S. Everybody's cakes in this thread look great. I especially love the fish cake. My DH saw that and wants it for his next birthday.

My computer was acting up that day. My daughter wanted black and white photos for her wedding.

It made the cake by candlelight look romantic. I just wish the photo was sharper.

the cake was actually quick and easy once I figured how to do the quilting. They DO leave a lot of little things out..lol

I spent about a week doing the roses, I was so intent on making the roses that I forgot to make leaves! I was making leaves with my mom...and was so intent on that I burnt the sheet cakes we were going to serve at the wedding. ( she ended up with a 1/4 sheet cake from the supermarket on her big day...whaaaaaaaaaa!)

The cake in the picture was a dummy cake that I drove down from Pennsylvania..fully assembled ...in the trunk of my car..lol

..ok GCF...for a moment I thought that GCF was a new acronym..but then realized it stood for Good Cake Fairy!! Your pic should be there now!!

Glad you liked the fish cake....it's very easy and lots of fun to make!

My neice wanted a non-traditional cake for her graduation and I had also just bought 3 of Collette's books and came up with this after reading about her construction of crooked cakes. (MY first attempt at uploading so I hope it works - if not see the crooked cake in my pix). I'm lucky enough to be close to NYC and could take classes from her but they are VERY pricey and the books are alot cheaper but the holidays are coming and I might request a class for Christmas. thumbs_up.gif
