I have a question for everyone----
I have a request for a cake with a Hummer grill on it. I couldn't find any pictures of it good enough to use directly so I drew one myself, see below. My drawing takes up almost the entire space of a 1/2 sheet cake. I thought about a BCT but I really don't want to go that route (don't want to mess it up plus it's just too big for what I feel comfortable with). So other than a BCT I was thinking about going the route of a gel transfer. But I'm debating on how to fill in the areas. I thought about using the glaze of Kathy F.'s but these areas are so large I don't know how it would look. And if I do this in BC, how would I smooth all these areas???
PHEW! Enough of that! icon_eek.gif
Thanks for your help!!!

Could it be done in colorflow?

Those look like fairly easy shapes to cut out of fondant, and then you could use silver lustre dust on the chrome parts. Janice

Yeah you're right veejaytx.. that would be a good idea to do it in fondant... would work out really nice.. easy to handle too .. good idea!

I also think that fondant piece would be your best bet. You could get a great looking silver/chrome finish with the luster dusts painted on there!

Buuuuuuuuut..if you decide to go via the BC route..make sure that it's a crusting butter cream . Then you can smooth it out either with parchment paper..the paper towel tech. but it won't give you textures.

Or..a HOT pallate knife. Get a containter of hot water....dip your knife in, dry on dry side towel and smooth your cake.

then go over it with a nice FAN brush also dipped in hot water.

To keep your water hot you can get an immersible hot water warmer ...they sell those anyplace.

It's like a stick that you place into your cup of liquid to keep it warm

Fondant as first choice then either royal or color flow as second and third choices.

Good luck.

mamafrogcakes, might be nice doing in fondant and BC (patted down, or someone on the site said "brushed"). This will give it a dimensional look.
