As I view everyone's beautiful cakes I was wondering..................who makes your cakes?? Or are you like me and do you get store bought??Whether it be birthday, shower or just because.
My husband always buys me a Baskin Robbins cake>This year it was pretty gross thumbsdown.gif .I put my foot down and said NO MORE STROE BOUGHT CAKES. I told him in the future I would bake a cake with my kids then let them decorate it.

I make my own cakes!! I love making my own cake because i can make exactly what i want in taste and looks. When i turned 29 i made myself a huge pink teddy bear and for my 30th i made a white basket weave cake with buttercream roses. For my 32nd i made myself a make up bag. Can't remember what i did for my 31st, hm
But i can't wait till next year so i can come up with something different : )
I would hate to have someone else make my cake, afterall if i make cakes and can't make my own, what's the point, it's the time of the year when i can be as freely creative as i want : )
COME ON MARCH 06!!!

my sister always brings me a store bought chocolate cake. They are okay if she catches them when they are fresh, but last year.............YUCK!

At any rate my husband wouldn't know its my birthday unless there was a store bought cake in the fridge, so i guess i'll keep having to choke down a piece.

One year, I told my mom (tell her don't buy me anything--I'm too old)just to get me a chocolate cake from a bakery here (pretty OK cakes). She did. The next year I baked my own.

My friend and her son came over while I was frosting and asked who the cake was for, I told her me. She didn't believe me. I was letting her son help and showing him how to make roses. Then I wrote "Happy Birthday to Me" on it and sliced it and ate it. It was the best tasting cake I ever put in my mouth--if I do say so myself. She said I shouldn't have to make my own cake.

Why not? I know the baker personally and like her work. So from now own--I do my own cakes.

Noone.....I refuse to bake my own birthday cake so consequently I don't get anything at all......it didn't really bother me until this year so I asked my family, the day after my birthday, how come I bake for everyone else but I get no cake for my birthday.....thier response was, they coudn't make one as nice as mine so they didn't want to even try to make one at all......I told them it was the love behind the cake that mattered, so we'll see what happens on my next birthday! LOL

Usually nobody! This year I made a cake for my nephew's BD (two days before mine) and went out to dinner with him and DB, SIL, DN, and then got to share the cake, so it was almost like having a cake of my own! It was very good too! Janice

No one bakes for me....bwaaaaaaaa!

No...seriously...if I ever make the mistake of eating my own birthday cake..( haven't had a BDCake since I was nine!...haven't aged eighter..like Dorian Grey...bwaaaaaaaahaahahaaaa)

I will wither up and blow away in a pile of dust!

So...since I've not had birthday cake since I was 9...does that mean I'm still 9??

Oh wait...I had squirt cheese on a cracker when I turned 30!...

I realized it was my 30th BD...a milestone moment..so I did the cheesey cracker thing with a candle...how sad and pathetic is that???

So..I guess I'm only 30!...woo hoo!

I don't get a cake either .... my b'day is a few days past christmas. Last year I took my dd, niece, mother, brother & his girlfriend to a Disney on Ice show (front row seats for 6 cost me over $500). My dd & niece REALLY wanted to see the show (Lilo & Stitch) and it was worth it when Lilo took a polaroid photo of the two of them (just like the girls were tourists in Hawai'i) and then pointed the girls out to Stitch later on in the show, who waved and blew them kisses.

We all went out to a local restaurant for dinner after the show. The restaurant wasn't my idea, so i thought maybe someone would have done something for my birthday (no one but my daughter had even said Happy Birthday that day) ..... dinner comes, then dessert, then the check. My brother offered to pick up the tab. We alll get ready to leave and my DD says "mommy, why didn't you get a piece of birthday cake?" .. my mom says "OH MY GOD __ I totally forgot that was today!!!" My brother says "Oh, wish i had remembered, your dinner would have been free."

Maybe this year will be different??

Naahh .. doubt it ..

My parents always buy cakes. Most of them are pretty dry, stales, and plain out distguisting. Publix makes a pretty good vanilla cake with strawberries and stabilized whipped cream! I don't usually get it for my birthday though ,but i did get it when i got surgery. And boy was it worth it!! icon_lol.gif
That's the only cake i'll eat now. The one bakery near me has distguisting stuff. All there cakes are stale!

And i'm starting to refuse anything with the nasty tube icing to. I just hate it!! Taste like vanilla flavored chemicals. It just can't beat the taste of buttercream, royal cing, or MMF! thumbs_up.gif

My family goes to dairy queen and gets my an ice cream cake. The last time it was terrible. DD wants to start decorating cakes so maybe next yr I will get her to make one for me. If I was closer to miami I would make you a cake diva, but tampa area is still a little to far away.

My husband makes me a pie as well! I see enough cake in a year that I want something different! He makes my favorite from scratch, Lemon Meringue!

Who would've guessed it? He can hardly make toast! icon_rolleyes.gifthumbs_up.gif

I don't get one either, for the same reason as most of you: I don't want to make my own!!

The year that I did my Wilton courses, I finished course 2 the night before my birthday, so I had brought home my basket weaved oval cake with all the royal icing flowers on it.
The next day for my birthday, I was upstairs getting dressed and my girls came to get me saying daddy had a surprise downstairs. They made me close my eyes and they led me to the kitchen. Well, as soon as I got to the kitchen, I could smell buttercream. When I opened my eyes, they all shouted "Surprise!".
There was my course two cake with candles on it!! icon_rolleyes.gif I knew from that day, that would probably be the last cake I would ever get!!

I don't WANT cake! I'd prefer PIE any day! I live and breathe cake and I love it when I can endulge in something else.

Now, when someone makes me one at work...its usually homemade, still in the pan, kind of cake and they are good too. I guess its ok as long as it is not mine!

mmmm, now I'm thinking about PIE and I just started a diet today! icon_cry.gif

I'll have to admit that my family is pretty good about remembering my birthday, considering it is the day after my sons. As far as getting a cake, nope, not a chance. I wish I could get a nice cheesecake one year.

No birthday cake for me either....one year I dropped many hints that I wanted an ice cream cake for my birthday so I got one but got reminded that it was expensive the whole time (guess who never has to buy the cakes I make! icon_lol.gif ).... but it was nice. But unless I nag for one, I don't get one! That's okay last year hubby took me to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse so I didn't need cake. icon_biggrin.gif
