Sheet Cake Help...

Okay i just got my new order in of magic line pans and wanted to use my 1/2 sheet cake pan. Well I make up my cake mix and bake it 20 mins turn it bake it another 20 mins and I think a little more but cant remember. So I take the cake out let it cool somewhat. GO to flip it and take it out of the pan. No problem, right?! Wrong I go to flip back over so when it cools the rest of the way I can trim it up and level it. Well I had it on the plate. Put my parchment paper over the top and put my cooling rack on top of the paper. I go to flip it and guess what happened. It slid right off and landed on top on my stove. Well hubby & I try to get it on a cookie sheet to see if I can save it. WE get it to a big fight bc he said to me after I did that " I knew that was going to happen!" I say than why did you let me do that? He thought bc I do it all the time I knew what I was doing! Well NO I just got the pan in today and never baked a half a sheet cake. So anyways how do you all flip a half a sheet cake and NOT end up loosing it like I did? Thanks Megan

Bless you heart... doesn't that stuff suck?!

I put a large cooling rack over the pan and just flip it over. I hold the edges of the rack and pan together so there is no change of slippage! Of course I run a knife around the edges of the cake to be sure it is seperate, and jiggle it a little to insure the bottom isn't sticking!

I always have my board ready with fancy foil on it, then place it on top of my cake and turn it over while holding onto the board. I then place it on my cooling rack or counter to cool.

P.S.... My DH has learned NEVER to say a word when a disaster happens when I'm baking a cake! He always says " My dad always told me to leave my shoes on when your wife is baking a cake! Because you WILL have to run to the store for SOME ingredient for her!" His mom used to bake cakes for a living. So now when disasters happen, he just says, "What do you need me to go get?" and he goes!

Yeah it does suck BIG time for him and his coworkers! HAHAHAHAAHA, I was making the cake for him to take to work and feed the guys there! He was telling them about the red velvet cake I made adn someone said something about it and well I went to work in the kitchen for them! Well I guess they are all SH!t out of luck on cake for tomorrow, friday is another day! HAHAHAHAAHA, now I can laugh abotu it. Oh I guess I am going to buy another BIG cooling rack tomorrow. Thanks ladies! Does anyone have any suggestions for red velvet cake balls?

When I take my sheet cakes out of the oven I set the pan directly on a cooling rack for about 15 minutes. I run a knife or icing spatula around the edges to make sure the cake is loose from the sides. I either place the cooling rack on top of the pan or my foil covered cake board on top and flip it. I very gently pull up on two sides and then on the opposing two sides. If I meet any resistance I stop pulling and then take the end of my long icing spatula and tap all around the pan. Be careful not to do this too hard as it may dent the pan. I believe Magic Line pans are a heavier pan than Wilton's so they might not dent as easily. I then try again and pull the pan off straight up.

If you need to you can level your cake in the pan before you flip. If you turn out onto a cooling rack just use a non-stick spray or Crisco to grease the rack to prevent sticking. To transfer to your final board I just run my long angled icing spatula underneath the cake all around to make sure it's not sticking. Once you place the cake on the final cake board make sure you center it right away. You may forget before you start icing and it might "glue" itself to the board as it cools completely and will be a bit more difficult to center.

No occasion! I made a red velvet cake yesterday and hubby was telling the guys about it and than told me that they were speaking of it. So I decided I would make a cake for the shop people, but I guess my plan back fired on everyone! They will all have to wait til friday or monday, which ever I feel like doing the cake for.
