Well, tonight I decided to get a head start on my neices 1 year old Birthday cake. I am making an Elmo Sheet Cake and a 6" round smash cake. I don't need the cakes until Friday night and thought I would bake the smash cake tonight and stick it in the freezer. I made the Hershey Easy Does it Cake. Making the cake went fast and smooth. I was feeling good!!! While the cake was baking I was gathering up some laundry. As I came back through the kitchen I could smell something burning. I opened the oven door and I had filled the pans too full! icon_redface.gif Cake batter was running everywhere and smoke was flying!!!!! Now I have to wait for the oven to cool and clean up some of the baked on batter and then run the oven through the clean cycle before I can try baking another one! BUMMER! Oh well, tomorrow is another day! LOL

Thanks for letting me vent.

At least you have plenty of time. icon_smile.gif Ugh, I hate the smell of an oven's self-cleaning cycle, but it will keep your kitchen nice and warm! icon_biggrin.gif

I have a very definite tendency to over-fill my pans (especially the small ones) so I always put a flat cookie sheet under them, sure saves on the cleanup! Janice

sorry to hear your blunder. I alway make a point of filling my pans 2/3 way and cooking on 325. if they fit I always use my bake even strips.

The cookie sheet is a good idea. I have neverhad a cake run over the pan before. The funny thing is I even took the time to measure 2 cups of batter for each 6" pan, but then they only looked about 1/2 full so I thought, "Oh, no problem. I can put a little more in each pan!" I should have stoppped while I was ahead! LOL. The oven has been cleaned and when I get home from work tomorrow afternoon I will start over again. Hopefully it will go better the second time around -----and I'll be sure to put a cookie sheet under the pans! icon_lol.gif
