My name is Irene Likokas, I am a wife and a mother of two and I live and work in Brooklyn, NY. I have been painting and drawing my entire life and have studied fine art at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. My first love is oil painting but I have also taught myself almost every other artistic medium that exists. Basically, I love working with my hands.
I always enjoyed making pretty cakes on occasion, but recently fell in love with the smooth look of fondant. A little over a year ago, I bought a package of fondant and tried it out. The rest is history. Entirely through word of mouth, I have become very busy with cake orders. I pride myself in making each cake unique. The extra time I might put into a cake is more for my satisfaction than a client’s.
I have only entered two Cake Central contests, one of which I was lucky enough to come in first and the other, second. I have had one of my cake photos published in the American Cake Decorating magazine this year and I’m looking forward to my first “live” cake competition in Atlantic City this October where I will be entering three different cakes.
There’s no doubt that my preferred decorating medium is sculpted fondant. A fondant-covered cake is a blank canvas to me. Through the unparalleled comprehension and experience of the Cake Central family, I have learned what no books could have possibly taught me. Each and every procedure has been perfected only with the help of my peers. Yes, Cake Central is acutely addictive!
When I am not baking, I am enjoying my family, and, occasionally, I am commissioned for some paintings or murals. A have built a website that showcases most of my work, including my cakes. It is www.thepaintedeye.com.
I see my future to be in this lovely business of decorating cakes, and to continue learning and teaching on this fantastic site.
