I was making a birthday cake for my uncle when I decided to add flavored to a royal frosting recipe. This is what I cam up with
Flavored Royal Frosting
Ingredients
- 3 Tablespoons Meringue Powder
1 lb. (4 cups) confectioners’ sugar
6 Tablespoons warm water*
1/2 to a whole package of Jello any flavor.
Instructions
For stiffer icing, use 1 tablespoon less water
- Beat all ingredients until icing forms peaks

- I used a whole package of Cherry Jello mix and it was a little gritty, So I would suggest a smaller dose.

I would like to know if anyone has tried this??? Would like to know exactly what ratio of jello to use to make in non gritty.

i wonder if i can use this to ice sugar cookies, just like a regular royal icing?

I also would like to know about the proper ratio formula using jello. I so would not like a gritty icing.

This is just a suggestion–bring the water called for in the recipe to boiling, add 1 tablespoon of Jello to the boiling water, stirring until it dissolves. Allow it to cool to lukewarm (at room temp. putting it in the fridge would make it congeal) then proceed with the recipe. If this is not enough flavor, the next time you might try a bit more until the flavor is right for you.

Hmmmm…..what if we used a Kool Aid as aspose to Jello?? ITs a bit sour or you could get the sweetened one, but with all the sugar being used I don’t see why this would not work and plus kool aid is not gritty at all. I’m going to try it this weekend and see how it turns out.

I have not tried kool aid in Royal frosting but I always different flavored kool aids in my regular frosting it is a little tart but not grainy and does not delute the frosting. If I was to use jello I would suggested and delute in the hot water called for and then cool.
